End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco IOS Software Releases 12.1(8)EW and 12.1(11)EW on the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series Switches
Cisco Systems® announces the end of life of the Cisco IOS® software releases 12.1(8)EW and 12.1(11)EW for the Cisco® Catalyst® 4000 Series switches. The last day to order the Cisco IOS software releases 12.1(8)EW and 12.1(11)EW for the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series switches is March, 19, 2004. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until March, 20, 2009. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco IOS software releases 12.1(8)EW and 12.1(11)EW on the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series switches.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco IOS software release 12.1(12)EW or newer for the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series switches, which offers more hardware support and software functions. For more information about the Cisco IOS software for the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series switches, go to:

Product Migration Options
The recommended replacement for the Cisco IOS software releases 12.1(8)EW and 12.1(11)EW on the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series switches is the Cisco IOS software release 12.1(12)EW or newer (Table 3). Software features such as PBR, DBL, Port Security, Jumbo Frames, as well as support for the Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine IV, Supervisor Engine II-Plus, NetFlow Services Card, 1000BASE-T GBIC and the AGM module are contained in the newer Cisco IOS releases.
Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, go to:
