Introduction

This document describes the password recovery procedure for the Catalyst 2600, 3000, 3100, and 3200 switches. To recover the password on Cisco 2600 Series Routers, see Password Recovery Procedure for the Cisco 2600 Series Routers.

There are no specific prerequisites for this document.

Step-by-Step Procedure

To recover your password, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the SysReq button on the switch (next to the Reset button).

    caution Caution: When you clear nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM), the password is cleared but all configuration parameters are also reset to their default values. This means losing all options previously configured on the switch.

  2. Move the arrow key to clear NVRAM.

  3. Press Return.

    The system reboots and no password is required.
