Catalyst 3000 100VG AnyLAN Modules

100VG Module for the Catalyst 3000 Family

Cisco's Catalyst 3000 family 100VG modules provide flexibility, performance, and manageability in cost- effective packages. These modules are available in fiber (ST connectors) and unshielded twisted-pair (UTP RJ-45 connectors) versions.

The Catalyst 3000 family supports a broad offering of network connection options, including 10-Mbps Ethernet, 155-Mbps ATM, and 100-Mbps Fast Ethernet. With the installation of a 100VG module in any member of the Catalyst 3000 switch family, 100VG-AnyLAN servers, workgroups, or hubs can be integrated easily with other Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and ATM devices.

All 100VG modules provide wire-speed performance for network connection of 100VG servers, workstations, and 100VG hubs. Both the UTP and fiber versions of the 100VG module offer superior performance in forwarding, buffering, and per-port addresses to meet the needs of demanding network applications.

Features and Benefits

  • Exceptional throughput and low latency for applications demanding high-performance, wire-speed switching

  • Superior traffic-handling capability for switched networks; large buffer capacity---256K inbound and 256K outbound per port---for a total per-port buffer capacity of 512K

  • Large address capacity per port, up to 1700 addresses; designed for use in backbone or server applications; demand-aging feature that ages out older addresses based on user-selected parameters

  • Supports the Ethernet Management Information Base (MIB); characterizes per-port broadcast packets, IEEE 802.12 statistics, octets, and utilization

  • Supports IEEE 802.1d spanning tree for network loop detection, disabling, and redundant, fault-tolerant connectivity

  • Easy module installation and setup

  • Power-up diagnostics aid troubleshooting; ensures reliable, trouble-free networks
