End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the
Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series XL Modular Switches
Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale of the Cisco® Catalyst® 2900 Series XL Modular Switch. The last day to order the Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series XL Modular Switch and modules is April 9, 2004. Customers with the appropriate support contract may continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until April 9, 2009. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series XL modular switches and modules.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 3550 Series or Catalyst 2950 Series switches, both of which provide advanced Layer 2 to Layer 4 intelligent services. Customers can deploy high-performance IP routing, advanced quality of service (QoS), granular rate limiting, enhanced network security, and multicast management networkwide, while maintaining the simplicity of traditional LAN switching.

Another migration alternative is to take advantage of the "Make the Move to Gigabit Ethernet" program. This program provides a 50 percent increase to the existing Cisco Technology Migration Program (Cisco TMP) credits when trading in a Catalyst 2900 Series XL for a new Catalyst 3750 Series or Catalyst 2970 Series Gigabit Ethernet switch. The Make the Move to Gigabit Ethernet program expires on January 24, 2004. For more information about this program, contact your Cisco account manager or authorized Cisco partner. Product Migration Options
The recommended replacement products for the Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series XL modular switches are listed in Table 3 and represent a combination of Cisco Catalyst 3550 and 2950 series switches. These products are the most comparable Cisco products at the most comparable prices to that of the Catalyst 2900 Series XL modular switches.
There are no direct replacements for the Cisco Catalyst 2900 Series XL modules. However, most port configurations obtained using these modules can be replicated using a combination of Catalyst 3550 and 2950 series switches.
Customers using ISL trunking who want to continue to do so should use the Cisco Catalyst 3550 Series.
