Is the port administratively disabled?
If the "Link" LED is off, the port is probably disabled (or faulty, if the "Fault" LED is on).
To verify that the port is administratively disabled:
- From the Status/Statistics Menu, select Port Status and the Port Status Panel is displayed.
- The status of the problem port is "Disabled," if the port is administratively disabled.
The Catalyst 2600's Token Ring switch ports should have either RJ-45 (Category 3,4, or 5 UTP) or IBM STP (Type 1 or 9) cables (Type 1 or 9)
How do I enable the port module?
- From the Configuration Menu, select Port Configuration and the Port Configuration Panel is displayed.
- Select Change.
- Specify the number of the problem port.
- Select State.
- Select enable.
- From the Configuration Menu, select IP Configuration and the IP Configuration Panel is displayed.
- The IP Address is the current IP address for the domain.
- If the default IP address, 0.0.0.0., is used, no SNMP management is available.
- From the Main menu, select Configuration.
- Select IP Configuration and the IP Configuration panel is displayed.
- From this panel, you can configure the IP address, default gateway address, and IP subnet mask.
- From the Configuration Menu, select IP Configuration. The subnet mask is shown in the IP Configuration panel.
- From the Main menu, select Configuration.
- Select IP Configuration.
From the Configuration Menu, select IP Configuration. The current gateway setting appears in the IP Configuration Panel.
How do I set a default route on the switch?
- From the Configuration Menu, select IP Configuration. The current gateway setting appears in the IP Configuration Panel.
- Enter the default gateway address in the "Default Gateway" field.

Are the switch ports to which the end devices connect in the same VLAN?
From the Configuration Menu, select Domain Configuration and the Domain Configuration Panel is displayed. This panel shows which domain (VLAN) where each port is assigned. Both ports you are trying to connect across must be assigned to the same VLAN. For more information, see the Configuring Multiple Domains section of Configuring the Catalyst 2600.
How do I assign all non-trunk ports along the link to the same VLAN, and configure any trunk ports along the link to pass that VLAN?
- From the Configuration Menu, select Domain Configuration and the Domain Configuration Panel is displayed.
- Select Change.
- At the prompt, enter the port number and the domain (VLAN) to assign the port.
The Catalyst 2600 does not support trunking.
Are all the switch ports along the link between the end device and the router either in the same VLAN or trunk ports configured to pass that VLAN?
