Ordering Highlights

Partners and customers with active service contracts for the Cisco VCO/4K may obtain Generic Version 5.2.2 by downloading it at no charge from Cisco.com. Refer to the associated Q&A document for further details.

Partners or customers that do not have service contracts for the Cisco VCO/4K and that wish to obtain a copy of Generic Version 5.2.2 or any Cisco VCO/4K software, should refer to the associated Q&A document for further details.

Upgrading Existing Systems To Version 5.2.2

This release is only supported on the Cisco VCO/4K, VCO/20, and VCO/80 platforms that meet very specific hardware requirements because some products will not support a Version 5 release (refer to Q7 near the end of the following product bulletin: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps2246/prod_eol_notice09186a008032d487.html). The Version 5.2.2 release is not supported on the SDS-1000 and SDS-500 platforms.

There will most likely be no hardware dependencies when upgrading from Generic Version 5.1.0.25 or higher to Version 5.2.2. It is always prudent, however, to inventory and compare the firmware version levels and the hardware version levels of the components in your system with the firmware and hardware tables in the Version 5.2.2 Generic release notes.

Cisco VCO® systems running Generic software lower than Version 5.1.0.25 will require firmware and/or hardware upgrades in order to support Generic Software Version 5.2.2.

Hardware components are no longer available from Cisco Systems because Cisco ended the sale of all Cisco VCO/4K components on March 1, 2002. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps2246/prod_eol_notice09186a008032d486.html. Some firmware components may be available from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) (inquire by sending an e-mail to nh-tech_sup@cisco.com), but you will most likely need to search for hardware and firmware on the open market. Also note that in most cases, it is generally not technically feasible to upgrade a Cisco VCO/20 or VCO/80 chassis running Version 4.2 or lower to Version 5.2.2 because this would require a nearly complete replacement of existing cards with newer technology cards and higher rev cards and a C-bus hardware kit-all of which would need to be purchased on the open market.
