Cisco 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine

Cisco Mobility Services Engine Ordering and Licensing Guide

This Cisco® 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine licensing and ordering guide presents guidelines and information for ordering the Cisco Mobility Services Engine (MSE), Cisco Context-Aware Mobility software, and Cisco Adaptive Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (wIPS) software licenses.

Overview

The Cisco 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine is an open platform that provides a new approach for the delivery of mobility services to enable mobile business applications. A combination of hardware and software, the Mobility Services Engine is an appliance-based solution that supports a suite of software services to provide centralized and scalable service delivery. Cisco Mobility Services are a set of value-added network services that consolidate intelligence from various points in the network to enable and optimize the delivery of business mobility applications. Service licenses currently available are:

Cisco Context-Aware software: This application tracks in real time location of Wi-Fi devices, interferers, rogues, active Wi-Fi tags, and wired devices. It also provides contextual information like presence, historical visibility, impact of interferers, and telemetry data.

For more information of Cisco Context-Aware Mobility software, visit: http://www.cisco.com/go/contextaware.

Cisco Adaptive Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (Adaptive wIPS): This application provides comprehensive threat detection and mitigation through monitoring, classifying, locating, and alerting on security threats.

For more information on the Cisco Adaptive Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (Adaptive wIPS), visit: http://www.cisco.com/go/wips.

Ordering the Cisco Mobility Services Engine Appliance and Software Licenses

The Cisco 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine hosts the Cisco Context-Aware Mobility software and Cisco Adaptive wIPS software. You can use just one of these applications on the MSE appliance or you can use both: the Cisco MSE supports the coexistence of multiple mobility services on the same appliance. Note, however, that each of these applications requires a separate software license.
Here is an overview of hardware and software SKUs associated with the Cisco MSE.

Steps for Ordering Cisco Mobility Services Engine and Associated Software

Follow these general steps to order the Cisco MSE and associated software licenses.

Step 1. Order the physical appliance or virtual appliance.

For physical appliances SKUs, refer to Physical Appliance SKUs section.

For the virtual appliance SKUs, refer to Virtual Appliance SKUs section.

Customers can download the OVA image from Cisco software center and use the activation license to enable the Cisco MSE virtual appliance.

Step 2. Order management and mobility software licenses.

You can order physical or electronic delivery licenses. For SKUs, see the sections "Cisco Mobility Services Engine Management Software" and "Cisco Context-Aware Mobility Services Software."

Step 3. Order hardware and software support.

Ordering Hardware and Software Support for Physical Appliances
Select the appropriate level of hardware support under the Cisco SMARTnet Software program for the Cisco Mobility Services Engine 3355 or 3310 hardware appliances. Then select the appropriate level of software support under the Cisco Software Application Support plus Upgrades (SAU) program for Cisco Context-Aware Mobility Software licenses ("KC" licenses) and Cisco Adaptive wIPS Software licenses.
Note that support for any "KT" licenses (SKUs for Context-Aware Mobility Software with both RSSI and TDoA tracking) should be purchased directly from AeroScout.
