Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub and 1548 Series Micro Switch. The last day to order the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub and 1548 Series Micro Switch is November 29, 2002. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub and 1548 Series Micro Switch. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Migrating to the Catalyst 2950 Series Switches

The EOS of the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub and 1548 Series Micro Switch family of products provides the opportunity to increase network performance and functionality by transitioning to products among the broad Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series product line.

Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series Switches

The Cisco Catalyst 2950SX-24, 2950-24 and 2950-12 are members of the Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series Switches. They are standalone, fixed-configuration, managed 10/100 switches providing basic workgroup connectivity for small to mid-sized companies. These wire-speed desktop switches come with Standard Image (SI) Software features and offer Cisco IOS® functionality for basic data, video and voice services at the edge of the network.

Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series Intelligent Ethernet Switches (Enhanced Image Software (EI))

Customers looking for advanced functionality and GBIC-based connectivity should consider the Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series Intelligent Ethernet Switches. The Cisco Catalyst 2950-G/T/C are fixed-configuration, stackable models provide wire-speed Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for small and mid-sized networks. The Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series is an affordable product line that brings intelligent services, such as enhanced security, high availability and advanced quality of service (QoS), to the network edge-while maintaining the simplicity of traditional LAN switching.

·Sophisticated traffic management at the edge of the network allows complete bandwidth control to help optimize network performance by eliminating unwanted traffic. Support for rate-limiting based on Layer 2-4 information.
·Security features at the edge of the network permit more effective security by extending the protected border to the network's outermost perimeter. Support for Access Control Parameters (ACPs) that enable the filtering of traffic based on Layer 2-4 information.
