The Cisco® XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade provides a powerful and flexible hardware platform to support the delivery of advanced IP services on the market-leading 12000 Series Routers (Figure 1). With a high-performance architecture comprising network processors and CPU farms, the Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade is well-suited for a wide range of voice-over-IP (VoIP), video, and security services. The Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade offers the flexibility of hosting field-replaceable daughter cards and shared port adapters, providing a solid foundation for services on the Cisco XR 12000 Series Routers.

Product Overview
The Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade is a 10-Gbps service card with superior packet processing capability. It combines engine forwarding capabilities with infrastructure support for services such as virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) awareness and service/hardware redundancy. The Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade is integrated into the router such that any service-specific configurations are automatically spread throughout the chassis interface cards, simplifying operations. Up to two additional daughter cards can be added to the blade's baseboard to provide any additional hardware support needed for future applications.
The initial set of services supported on the Cisco XR 12000 Multi-Service Blade includes Session Border Controller and Virtual Firewall.
