Release Notes for the Catalyst Express 520 Switches, Cisco IOS Release 12.2(37)EX and Later

Cisco IOS Release 12.2(37)EX runs on all Catalyst Express 520 switches.
These release notes include important information about this Cisco IOS release and any limitations, restrictions, and caveats that apply to it. Verify that these release notes are correct for your switch. To find the release number of the Cisco IOS image running on your switch:

On a new or unconfigured switch, see the Cisco IOS release label on the rear panel of your switch.

The device manager hardware and software requirements are described in the User Guide for the Catalyst Express 520 Switches.
Upgrading the Switch Software
The software upgrade procedure is described in the Cisco Configuration Assistant online help. To upgrade the switch, you must download and use Cisco Configuration Assistant.
Limitations and Restrictions
You should review this section before you begin working with the switch. These are known limitations that will not be fixed, and there is not always a workaround. Some features might not work as documented, and some features could be affected by recent changes to the switch hardware or software.
These are the device manager limitations:
•
When a PC is connected directly to a switch port, the username password dialog appears twice before the device manager appears.
The workaround is to enter the username and the password in both dialogs.
•
The PC must have a network interface card (NIC) driver that supports IEEE 802.1Q packet tagging if either:

You cannot configure the copper interface of the dual-purpose port if an SFP module is installed in it.
The workaround is to first remove the SFP module and then to connect the copper cable.
•
You cannot set up the switch for the first time if the switch is connected to an upstream DHCP server and to your management station at the same time. (You can set up the switch by using a PC connected to one of the switch Ethernet ports or by connecting the switch to a DHCP server, but not both.)
The workaround is to disconnect the switch from the uplink DHCP server, connect a PC to one of the switch Ethernet ports, and configure the switch by using the Express Setup program.

A port fails under these conditions:

The workaround is to use a crossover cable to connect the two ports, regardless of the speed settings.
•
When you start the device manager from a Firefox browser session, an invalid certificate error appears.
The workaround is to delete the certificate(s) in Firefox and then close and restart the browser. Follow these steps to delete the certificate(s):

When you start the device manager from Internet Explorer 7.0, a certificate error page appears.
The workaround is to click the Continue to this website (not recommended) link and continue to start the device manager.
Important Notes
When you start the device manager in secured mode from Internet Explorer 6.0 or from FireFox1.5, several security certificates appear. Accept all of the certificates. The device manager then appears.

Open Caveats
This section describes the open caveats with possible unexpected activity in this software release. Unless otherwise noted, these severity 3 Cisco IOS configuration caveats apply to all of the Catalyst Express switches:
•
The port configuration is lost if you press the Admin button repeatedly when the switch is entering and exiting direct managed mode.
The workaround is to not repeatedly press the Admin button when entering and exiting direct managed mode. Wait at least five seconds before each press of the Admin button.
•
You might not be able to complete the switch initial setup if you interrupt the process by either disconnecting your PC from the switch or by changing your PC IP address settings.
The workaround is to restart the entire initial setup procedure, as described in the switch user guide.
•
If you end your browser session without saving changes to the setup parameters during initial setup or in direct managed mode, and then open a new browser session, the Express Setup window or the device manager page might not appear in the new browser session.
The workaround is to type in any URL (for example, www.cisco.com). The browser then displays the Express Setup window or the device manager.
Update to the Catalyst Express 520 User Guide
The Catalyst Express 520-24PC-K9 switch supports the RPS 675 and RPS 2300 redundant power systems.
