These topics describe various tasks that may be performed by a VFrame administrator:

Replacing a Server Switch Chassis
If you need to remove and replace a server switch from a VFrame environment, follow these steps:
Step 1
Remove Fibre Channel port access for the VFrame Director. This step should be done by changing the number of accessible Fibre Channel ports to 0.
Step 2
Remove the server switch from the VFrame assets.
Step 3
Set the new server switch to have the same Ethernet management address as the former chassis.
Step 4
Add the new server switch into the VFrame environment as an asset.
Step 5
Establish fibre channel port access to the VFrame Director. This step should be done by changing the number of accessible Fibre Channel ports to the same value that was configured previously.
Step 6
Synchronize the VFrame Director site with the chassis.
Changing the Physical VFrame Director Server
If you need to remove and replace the physical server on which VFrame is installed, follow these steps:
Step 1
Install VFrame services on the new server.
Step 2
Install host drivers on the new server.
Step 3
Change the host name of the new server to be the same as that of the old VFrame Director.
Step 4
Configure the mgmt interface, as described in the "(Optional) Configuring a Management Interface on the VFrame Director Host" section on page 3-11.
Step 5
Reconfigure the local interfaces (especially relevant if you are using high-availability VFrame Directors). Refer to Step 2 of the "Adding the Redundant VFrame Director Instance" section on page 4-9.
Step 6
Stop VFrame services on the current VFrame Director, if you have an active VFrame Director running (for HA environments).
Step 7
Unplug the replacement VFrame Director server and connect the new VFrame Director server.
Step 8
Start VFrame services on the active (nonreplaced) VFrame Director (for high-availability environments).
Step 9
Click the Config and Check HA button (refer to the "Configuring VFrame Directors for High Availability" section on page 10-19). The active VFrame Director verifies the HA configuration.
Step 10
Start VFrame services on the new physical VFrame Director server.
Changing a VFrame Director High-Availability Configuration to a non High-Availability Configuration
To change a VFrame Director high-availability configuration into a single instance configuration, follow these steps:
Step 1
Backup the VFrame Director database and all master images as described in the "Backing Up a Configuration with the VFrame GUI" section on page 16-1.
Step 2
Disable the auto-recovery feature as described in the "Disabling Auto-Recovery Mode" section on page A-4.
Step 3
Stop the VFrame Director application by entering this command on the standby VFrame Director server:

Uninstall the VFrame Director application by entering these commands on the standby VFrame Director server:
% vframeinstall --force-erase-all
% rm -rf /usr/local/topspin/vframe
Step 5
Stop the VFrame Director application by entering this command on the active VFrame Director server:

Uninstall the VFrame Director application by entering these commands on the active VFrame Director server:
% vframeinstall --force-erase-all
% rm -rf /usr/local/topspin/vframe
Step 7
Reinstall the VFrame Director application on a server as described in the "Installing VFrame on the VFrame Director Server in Single Instance Mode" section on page 3-1.
Step 8
Restore the VFrame Director database as described in the "Restoring a Configuration" section on page 16-4.
