Managing Configuration Data

As an administrator in the system, you will need to manage the configuration data that is generated from the network devices that are added in Cisco UCS Director. You can manage configuration data in one of the following ways:

  • Purge configuration data immediately—Using the Purge option in the user interface, you can delete configuration data that matches a specific criteria. You can specify if you would like to retain data that matches a certain date or size criteria, and remove the remaining data. For more information, see Purging Configuration Data.

  • Configure data retention settings—Using the Retention Settings option in the user interface, you can specify a unit of time for retaining configuration data from network devices. For more information, see Configuring Data Retention Settings.

Purging Configuration Data

You can purge configuration data of network devices based on the following criteria:

  • Date—You can set a specific date or time interval.

  • Size—You can set a specific size criteria

    Step 1   Choose Physical > Network.
    Step 2   On the Network page, choose the pod.
    Step 3   Select the device for which you want to purge configuration data.
    Step 4   Choose Configurations.
    Step 5   On the Configurations screen, choose Purge.
    Step 6   On the Purge Network Device Data screen, complete the required fields, including the following:

    Field

    Description

    Purge Type field

    Choose the type of purge settings you want to set. It can be one of the following:

    • Date

    • Size

    Date Type drop-down list

    Choose a type of date. It can be one of the following:

    • Before Date—Data prior to the specified date will be purged.

    • After Date—Data after the specified date is purged.

    • Between Date—Data between the specified dates is purged.

    Delete Before field

    Specify a date and time before which network data must be purged.

    This field is displayed only if you selected Before Date in the Date Type drop-down list.

    Delete After field

    Specify a date and time after which the network data must be purged.

    This field is displayed only if you selected After Date in the Date Type drop-down list.

    From Date field and To Date field

    Specify a date range and time within which the network data must be purged.

    This field is displayed only if you selected Between Date in the Date Type drop-down list.

    Size Type drop-down list

    Choose the size parameter for the data purge. It can be one of the following:

    • Greater (Size)

    • Lesser (Size)

    • Between (Size)

    Greater Size (Byte) field

    Configuration data more than the size specified in this field is purged.

    This field is displayed when you select Greater (Size) from the Size Type drop-down list.

    Lesser Size (Byte) field

    Configuration data lesser than the size specified in this field is purged.

    This field is displayed when you select Lesser (Size) from the Size Type drop-down list.

    Between Size (Byte) field

    Specify a numeric range such as 10-20. Configuration data within this range is purged.

    This field is displayed when you select Between (Size) from the Size Type drop-down list.

    Show Report check box

    Check this check box to view a list of configuration data that matches the specified criteria. You can check any record and choose Validate.

    From this list of records, you can choose records and delete them from the system.

    Note   

    Data that has been configured for deletion, based on the data retention settings that you set, is automatically deleted when the system task, Infra Network Purge Collection Task, runs.

    Step 7   Click Submit.
    What to Do Next

    Configuring Data Retention Settings

      Step 1   Choose Physical > Network.
      Step 2   On the Network page, choose the pod.
      Step 3   Select the device for which you want to configure the data retention settings.
      Step 4   Choose Configurations.
      Step 5   On the Configurations page, choose Retention Settings.
      Step 6   On the Retention Settings page, complete the required fields, including the following:

      Name

      Description

      Retention Period Value field

      The maximum age of the data that you want to retain.

      This value is combined with the value for Retention Period Unit field. For example, if you want data retain data for 3 months, specify 3 for this field, and choose Month(s) from the Retention Period Unit drop-down list.

      Retention Period Unit drop-down list

      The unit of time for data retention. It can be one of the following:

      • Hour(s)

      • Day(s)

      • Week(s)

      • Month(s)

      • Year(s)

      This value is combined with the value for Retention Period Value field. For example, if you want data retain data for 3 months, specify 3 for the Retention Period Value field and choose Month(s) from this drop-down list.

      The Retention Period Value and Retention Period Unit fields specify the maximum age of configuration data to be retained. For example, if you specify that data be retained for 3 months, all data older than 3 months is automatically deleted.

      Step 7   Click Submit.
