ISG Support for SAMI Blade
The ISG Support for SAMI Blade feature combines the subscriber management features and functions of the Cisco Intelligent Services Gateway (ISG) with the processing power of the Cisco Service Application Module for IP (SAMI). The Cisco SAMI blade has six PowerPC (PPC) processors and occupies just one slot in the Cisco 7600 series router. This means that you can support many ISG features for up to 600,000 subscribers on a single router.
Finding Feature Information
Your software release may not support all the features documented in this module. For the latest caveats and feature information, see Bug Search Tool and the release notes for your platform and software release. To find information about the features documented in this module, and to see a list of the releases in which each feature is supported, see the feature information table at the end of this module.
Use Cisco Feature Navigator to find information about platform support and Cisco software image support. To access Cisco Feature Navigator, go to www.cisco.com/go/cfn. An account on Cisco.com is not required.
Prerequisites for ISG Support for SAMI Blade
- The Cisco SAMI blade has been installed and configured. For more information, see the Cisco Service and Application Module for IP User Guide.
- You understand how PPC processors are configured on the Cisco SAMI blade. For more information, see the "Overview of the Cisco SAMI" chapter of the Cisco Service and Application Module for IP User Guide.
- All six PPCs on the Cisco SAMI blade must run the same Cisco IOS image.
Restrictions for ISG Support for SAMI Blade
The following types of ISG sessions are not supported on the Cisco SAMI blade:
- PPP sessions. Traffic must reach the Cisco SAMI blade as native IPoE traffic.
- IP interface sessions.
![]() Note |
Although IP interface sessions are supported, subinterface sessions are more appropriate for ISG support. IP routed and Layer 2 connected sessions are supported. |
The following ISG features are not supported on the Cisco SAMI blade:
- VRF selection
- VRF session transfer
Information About ISG Support for SAMI Blade
The Cisco SAMI blade has no external physical interface to receive traffic to and from subscribers. It is connected to the switch fabric in the Cisco 7600 series router chassis and an internal Gigabit Ethernet port provides an interface between it and the supervisor module.
You must configure each of the six SAMI PPCs independently of the others on the SAMI blade. To configure the ISG Support for SAMI Blade feature, you should understand how to configure ISG access for IP subscriber sessions. For more information, see the "Configuring ISG Access for IP Subscriber Sessions" chapter of the Cisco IOS Intelligent Services Gateway Configuration Guide.

VRF selection and VRF session transfer are not supported by this feature. |
You should also understand the following concept:
SAMI Subinterfaces
You must configure and assign virtual LANs (VLANs) from the supervisor engine to the Cisco SAMI blade so that you can create and configure subinterfaces on each PPC GigabitEthernet0/0 single logical port. You can then enable ISG on those subinterfaces to perform IP-based subscriber management functions.
For more information, see the "Maintaining and Monitoring the Cisco SAMI" and "Configuring VLAN Support" sections of the Cisco Service and Application Module for IP User Guide.
