CSCwm70142 | TOSA issue with switch driver voltage on 72 Line Cards |
A limited set of Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 Flex Spectrum Single Module ROADM line cards, which are mentioned in the Products Affected section, may have incorrect internal calibration data for the Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA) component. This issue may result in the hardware circuits not properly driving the TOSA. When this condition occurs, the software that controls the line card may raise an equipment failure alarm. This issue occurs only during the connection verification operation and affects only the connection verification functionality. Traffic remains unaffected even if an equipment failure alarm is triggered.
During the connection verification operation, the TOSA is driven ON or OFF according to proper functionality. An incorrect calibration causes the TOSA to operate with a voltage that is lower than the normal level and closer to the minimum limit. The line card generally functions well, but over time and due to environmental factors, it may not provide the correct voltage. This causes the TOSA to fail to turn on.
After triggering a connection verification operation at the node level, a line card raises an EQPT-FAIL alarm. The EQPT-FAIL alarm does not have any specific traffic impacts, but it makes the card unmanageable.
Solution
The affected line cards should be replaced upon failure. To determine if a line card serial number is affected, see the Serial Number Validation section of this field notice. If the node is affected, contact TAC to get a replacement unit.
To determine if a serial number is affected, see the Serial Number Validation section of this field notice.
Cisco provides the Serial Number Validation Tool to verify whether a device is impacted by this issue. To check the device, enter the serial number in the Serial Number Validation Tool.
Important: For security reasons, you must click the Serial Number Validation Tool link that is provided in this section. Do not copy and paste the link into a browser. Use of the Serial Number Validation Tool URL external to this field notice will fail.
Support Case Manager (SCM) must be used for ordering replacement parts for this Field Notice. To open SCM in a new tab, click the following link:
https://mycase.cloudapps.cisco.com/fieldnotice?fn=FN74217
SCM will validate eligibility and ensure that a request for a particular serial number has not already been submitted. If there is already a request, SCM will indicate that an RMA has already been submitted and NOT eligible for replacement.
Provide the following information:
Order entry supports up to 50 serial numbers per request. For more than 50, submit additional requests.
For questions about order status, see the Field Notice Affected Hardware Replacement FAQ.
