Overview

Designed for the Cisco UCS X-Series Modular System and Cisco UCS C-Series Rack servers, the Cisco UCS 6664 Fabric Interconnect is a high-density, line-rate, low-latency 100Gbps solution for Cisco UCS. Fabric interconnects unite computing, networking, management, storage access, and virtualization resources into a single, cohesive system designed to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The 6664 Fabric Interconnect has both Ethernet and unified ports. Unified ports provide Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Fibre Channel, NVMe over Fabric, and Ethernet. By supporting these different protocols, you can use a single multi-protocol Virtual Interface Card (VIC) in your servers. This provides both Capital Expenditure (CapEx) and Operating Expenses (OpEx) savings associated with not having to run multiple parallel networks requiring different types of adapter cards, switching infrastructure, and cabling within racks.

Cisco UCS C-Series Rack Servers can be directly connected to the 6664 Fabric Interconnect, or you can use the Cisco Nexus® 93180YC-FX3 switch as a Fabric Extender (FEX). A FEX provides rack servers the networking cabling consolidation benefits of a modular server system.

The Cisco UCS X-Series provides network cable consolidation with Intelligent Fabric Modules (IFMs). IFMs for the UCS X-Series come in both 25Gbps and 100Gbps form factors, which enable up to 200Gpbs aggregate bandwidth per compute node.
