Products Affected
All PIX Firewall platforms (PIX, PIX10000, PIX-510, and PIX-520) on which PIX Firewall 4.2(1) software is installed are affected by this deferral. Both PIX Firewall and PIX Firewall Manager software are being deferred due to the interdependence between these two products, even though the defects listed below are only present in the PIX Firewall software itself.
Problem Description
This field notice describes several software defects that have been reported against PIX Firewall 4.2(1) that could result in unpredictable failures, including system reloads. As a result, the image has been deferred.

View CSCdk20704 (registered customers only) - Failover not functioning properly.

View CSCdk21312 (registered customers only) - Authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) commands not working when referencing specific addresses.

View CSCdk22832 (registered customers only) - The command aaa accounting outbound causes reloads.

View CSCdk23711 (registered customers only) - Under certain condtions, PIX Firewall is reloading when using 4.2(1).
Background
PIX Firewall 4.2(1) software was released to Cisco Connection Online (CCO) on June 17, 1998. Version 4.2(1) was never included as part of any hardware released by Cisco or made available on CD-ROM. Only customers who actively downloaded 4.2(1) from CCO are affected by this Field Notice.
Workaround
Cisco recommends using PIX Firewall 4.1 images until 4.2(2) is released.
Solution
To eliminate the problems described in this notice, we recommend that you download and install PIX Firewall 4.2(2) when it becomes available.
