Problem Description
When a 1200, 1130 or 1240-series Access Point, with an LWAPP image installed that is prior to 12.3(11)JX, attempts to connect to a Wireless LAN Controller running 4.0.155.0 software, the Access Point may be unable to complete downloading its updated software.
Problem Symptoms
After a controller is upgraded to 4.0.155.0, a number of 1200, 1130 or 1240-series Access Points fail to finish downloading code from controller.
The AP console could print out all or some of the following messages:
Premature end of tar file ERROR: Problem extracting files from archive.archive download: takes 211 seconds lwapp_image_proc: tar file is not good one, try other controller
The controller message log can be filled up with this message:
Received packet with invalid sequence number (got xxx, expected xxx) from AP xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
The WLC may show the AP stuck in the state: Operational Status: Downloading.
Workaround/Solution
Convert the LWAPP Access Point to autonomous IOS, then reconvert the AP to LWAPP, using the 12.3(11)JX code and the upgrade tool V2.1 from CCO. The AP should now be able to join the controller without any problems.
