Problem Description
MCS-7825-H1-CC1, MCS-7825-H1-IPC1, MCS-7825-H1-ECS1 and non-Cisco Hewlett-Packard DL320G3 with an enabled SATA host RAID array are experiencing an unexpected spike in disk activity approximately every 5 hours which causes a spike in CPU utilization. The results to the affected applications include MGCP gateway registration bounce, dropped calls, Unity TUI delays and other unpredictable application behaviors.
The problem occurs on both active and idle systems and is observed on servers with just the operating system installed regardless of which Cisco software application in installed.
Background
MCS-7825-H1-CC1, MCS-7825-H1-IPC1, MCS-7825-H1-ECS1 and non-Cisco Hewlett-Packard DL320G3 with an enabled SATA host RAID array are experiencing an unexpected spike in disk activity approximately every 5 hours which causes a spike in CPU utilization.
Problem Symptoms
Devices such as MGCP Gateway, Unity voice mail ports, Music on Hold, and MTP, which have a keepalive timeout value of 30 seconds, unregister from the Callmanager server approximately every 5 Hours.
For about 33 to 37 seconds, Callmanager does not print CCM and SDL traces. Perfmon counters Physical->%DiskTime and Physical->%DiskWrite time spike at very high values(1000+). Perfmon counter Process->PageFaults/sec spikes at high values (700-1200) at this time.
Unity messaging response times may experience delay during periods of CPU spike.
