Problem Description
The 15305-DC= design was modified in May 2005 to improve manufacturing yields. This change has caused higher than acceptable failure rates at customer sites.
This issue may be encountered whenever one or two of the affected modules are installed in a redundant power configuration. In this configuration, after the modules are powered on, the node begins to repeatedly reset with LEDs flashing. Powering off or removing either module, whether the module is affected or not, will correct the issue. This issue is not seen in non-redundant configurations.
Background
Customers using the redundant power supply option in the 15305 may experience startup issues.
Problem Symptoms
The modules will begin to reset repeatedly with LEDs flashing when installed in redundant power module configurations.
Workaround/Solution
If you have an affected unit, with the part number, revision, and serial number listed in this document, please contact the TAC and request an RMA. If any of the afore mentioned identifying information does not match that listed here, then the unit is not affected by this issue and should not be returned for replacement.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
The 15305-DC powered chassis can be identified by the DC power modules plugged above the SYSCONT-SD128-RJ45 module.
The chassis can be equipped with redundant DC power modules, which are plugged next to each other.
An individual 15305-DC power module can be identified by the 4 pin DC connector located on the front face plate. These four pins are labeled with the applicable DC voltages, which are, from left to right, 0V, -48DC, -48DC, and Chassis GND.
The Cisco part number for the 15305-DC power module is located on the non-component side of card. To view the Cisco part number, the DC power module must removed from the chassis after shutting off the DC power to the chassis, being sure to observe appropriate ESD anti-static procedures.
