Problem Description
The calibration data for the 10G optical module was not correctly written to the EEPROM on the board.
Background
Certain OC192-LR modules require a longer period of time when reading the EEPROM data in the optical module. If an adequate amount of time is not provided the module may periodically not allow the Vendor ID to be read. If this should occur, the calibration station will identify the vendor as ?UNKNOWN?.
When the Vendor ID is ?UNKNOWN? incorrect resistor values are used for calibration. When this occurs, the calculation for the Laser Bias Current will be incorrectly calculated and the system software will read a value of infinity. The systems interpretation of infinity will vary and will periodically raise a Laser Bias Current High alarm incorrectly.
The calibration test station has been upgraded to provide the necessary time period to allow the data to be properly read.
Problem Symptoms
Customer will see a Laser Bias Current alarm. Traffic is not affected.
Workaround/Solution
It is possible for the Cisco TAC to correct the calibration data while the board is in service. Customers affected by this issue should contact the TAC who will follow the appropriate process (EDCS-435742)to correct the issue.
