Problem Description
If a laptop computer is attached to the front console connection of a Cisco MeetingPlace server, status from an upgrade will be output to the front console. If the front console is disconnected at anytime during the upgrade, the upgrade might fail to complete.
Problem Symptoms
The time needed to complete an upgrade can exceed the scheduled down time if the upgrade fails.
Workaround/Solution
WORKAROUND:
To avoid this condition from happening, you should:
-
Turn off all power saving features on the laptop prior to an upgrade.
-
Do not disconnect or connect the front console in the middle of an upgrade.
-
Use AC power instead of battery to prevent an inadvertent shutdown.
-
Do not ctrl-C to stop an upgrade if connected through the front console.
The power feature can be accessed through the display property dialog:
-
Right click on any empty space on your desktop and select properties, select the Screen Saver tab to see the following dialog:

-
Make sure that [None] is selected for the Screen Saver drop down list.
-
Click on the Power Schemes tab to set Power saving mode.

-
Change all applicable settings under the Power Scheme tab to "Never" for System standby, System hibernates and Turn off hard discs.
-
Select the Advanced tab and make sure that the setting for "When I close the lid of my portable computer", is set to "Do nothing".

SOLUTION:
Follow the directions described in the workaround section above to configure your laptop.
