Manufactured with version 3.1(2) |
Problem Description
Some modules experienced a problem during manufacturing when the 3.1(2) software was attempting to be loaded. The procedure was not completed properly and customers are receiving units that look online to the Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC), but will not function.
Background
There was a problem with the manufacturing script, where it would continue as though the 3.1(2) load was completed, but the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) code was only partially loaded and corrupted.
Problem Symptoms
When an affected module is booted, it comes online but fails the diagnostic process, and no configuration or load balancing is possible. Show module will show 3.1.2. However, upon boot you will get the following error message on the CAT:
00:01:55: %CSM_SLB-3-UNEXPECTED: Module 2 unexpected error: Fatal Diagnostic Error 2, Info 0
When the user tries to upgrade or downgrade this board to another version, the Content Switching Modules (CSM) code will try to check the D0 or C0 version of the board using IXP code. Since the IXP code is corrupted, the upgrade process will fail.
Workaround/Solution
The resolution is to skip the D0 or C0 checking and let the system proceed with an upgrade. Perform the following:
-
Session into the CSM board or use the front panel console
-
Issuing the upgrade command including the force option for the appropriate version:
CSM> upgrade {slot0: | ip-addr} {csm-file} force
Note: There is nothing wrong with version 3.1(2)
