Problem Description
In rare instances, removing one of the Route Processor Module (RPM)-PR or RPM/B back cards may cause the RPM-PR or RPM/B to reset and disrupt user traffic through the RPM-PR or RPM/B.
Background
The RPM-PR and RPM/B can accommodate a pair of back cards, one in the upper bay and one in the lower bay. The two cards may be MGX-RJ45-FEs, or MGX-RJ45-4E/Bs, or one of each. Removing one of the back cards can cause the RPM-PR or RPM/B to reset, causing traffic through the remaining back card to be interrupted for a short period.
Problem Symptoms
The RPM-PR or RPM/B resets and come back into operation. The event log will record this event. The RPM-PR or RPM/B will also log these events. Traffic through the reset RPM-PR and RPM/B will be interrupted temporarily while reboot occurs.
Workaround/Solution
Shut down the Ethernet or Fast Ethernet interfaces on the MGX-RJ45-4E/B or MGX-RJ45-FE that needs to be removed before you remove the card. Below is an example of the command sequence used to shut down a Fast Ethernet port.
RPM-PR-13#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z. RPM-PR-13(config)#interface FastEthernet0/0 RPM-PR-13(config-if)#shutdown RPM-PR-13(config-if)# 00:04:38: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface FastEthernet0/0, changed state to administt RPM-PR-13(config)#exit
