Problem Description
Cisco is doing a Recall of GEIP+ boards shipped in October of 2000.
The best way to identify if your board is affected is to compare the serial number or sales order number listed below. You can also look at your invoice and see what date it was shipped out of manufacturing.
Background
A small number of GEIP+ boards, shipped in October, 2000, were manufactured with a capacitor placed incorrectly.
Due to the incorrect placement of the capacitor, the capacitor could blow out. This will NOT cause any operational problems in the system.
Problem Symptoms
There is no method to detect the defective board from the command line.
The only visible symptom might be discoloration of the capacitor, indicating it has blown. If the capacitor blows out, there will be no effect on the operation of the system, nor will there be any error log information.
To confirm if your board is affected, compare the serial number on the board to the list of serial numbers above. The corresponding SO#s are also listed below. These are the sales orders for the affected GEIP+s that were shipped with whole symptoms.
