Introduction
This document will explain how to associate a CTI port to a user's account. Attaching a CTI port to a user's account allows the user to have a "controlled line" in Cisco IP SoftPhone. These lines are the equivalent of each extension that might appear on a conventional phone. This document is part of a document set. For information on the rest of these documents, consult the index for this set: Installing and Configuring Cisco IP SoftPhone
This document uses the Default Device Pool. In addition, all Locations are
set to Enter the URL: http://servername/ccmadmin, where servername
is either the name or IP address of your Cisco CallManager system, in order
to open the Cisco CallManager Administration page. Go to User > Global Directory.
This opens the User Information page. Type the name of the user you want to
associate with a CTI Port and click Search. This brings up the User Information window. Click the person's name.
The page refreshes and brings up the user's information. Click Device Associations. The page refreshes and brings up the Available
Device List Filters page. If your system has a large number of devices, you
may want to use a filter to search. Devices may be searched by device name or
extension number, in a similar fashion to the Advanced User Search. Click
Select Devices to begin the Search. In this case we have two CTI ports created with the directory numbers 2200
and 2201. A search brings up the following: Enable the checkbox next to the Cisco IP Phone icon and click Update
and then Insert. Devices with multiple extensions associated with them appear multiple times
in the list, and checking one of the entries in the list causes the other one
to be checked as well. If a device is checked, a radio button appears next to
the extension for that device, which allows that extension to be selected as
the primary extension for that user. By default the Primary Extension will assign itself to the first CTI port that
gets checked.
To remove the primary line, click No Primary Extension. Click Select Devices. If your system has a large number of devices you

primary extension for that user. Once you have finished associating devices, click Update to add the
information, or click Personal Information to see the user's
information. Clicking Update will bring up a window that looks something like
this: You have now completed this task. Return to the index page

Caution: Checking one of these buttons
will cause Cisco IP SoftPhone to bring up the primary extension as the only
controlled line. If multiple lines are desired, do not mark a primary
line.
