Cisco IOS Software
Deployment Release 12.2(13)JAThis product bulletin describes the content and delivery information concerning Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(13)JA, an early deployment release supporting Cisco Aironet® 350 Series access poinths, Cisco Aironet 1100 Series access points, Cisco Aironet 1200 Series access points, and the Cisco Aironet 1410 wireless bridge of the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series. This release contains new features as well as all of the features delivered in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(11)JA described in Product Bulletin No. 2181.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA provides IEEE 802.11g support, expanded radio management capabilities, and other wireless LAN (WLAN) features for Cisco Aironet access points. The release also provides maintenance release support for the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridge platform, with support for Cisco Aironet 1410 wireless bridges.
These Cisco IOS Software features are available as a free software upgrade for Cisco Aironet 1200, 1100, and 350 Series access points and Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridges. Figure 1 displays the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA release train and recommended migration path.

New Features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA
Table 1 lists the new features delivered in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA. These features are supported in this release for the platforms noted, with continued support for the features introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(11)JA unless otherwise indicated.
Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridges do not support any of the new features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA. This release provides only bug and caveat resolution support for the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridge platform. For caveats resolved in this release, please see the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series release notes, available at:

Features Not Supported in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA for the Cisco Aironet 350 Series Access Point
Cisco Aironet 350 Series access points will support the same Cisco IOS Software features as Cisco Aironet 1100 Series access points in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(11)JA and earlier Cisco IOS Software releases, with the exception of Wireless Domain Services (WDS). Cisco Aironet 350 Series access points will not support WDS.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA Features
Radio Management
This feature allows a Cisco Aironet access point to take radio measurements and continuously scan and monitor the air/radio frequency environment.
Radio Management Aggregation
This WDS feature, when run on a Cisco Aironet access point, enables various Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network (SWAN) capabilities, including rogue access point detection and location, air/radio frequency interference detection, the assisted site survey tool, and future enhancements. Read more about Cisco SWAN at:
IEEE 802.11g Wireless Standard
This feature provides support for the IEEE 802.11g standard for wireless networking via 802.11g access point radio modules available for Cisco Aironet 1200 and 1100 Series access points.
Client Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Caching
This feature allows Cisco Aironet access points to respond to ARP requests on behalf of IEEE 802.11 Cisco Aironet, Cisco Compatible, and most Wi-Fi Certified wireless client devices. This enables IP address resolution without requiring the wireless client device to leave power save or idle modes, resulting in extended client device battery life.
Wi-Fi Alliance Wireless ISP Roaming (WISPr) RADIUS Attributes
This feature supports the Location-ID and Location-Name RADIUS vendor-specific attributes (VSAs) recommended by the Wi-Fi Alliance WISPr hot-spot service provider roaming initiative. These VSAs are used in public access networks to support roaming billing arrangements between service providers.
Transmit Power Control (TPC)
TPC is used by Cisco Aironet access points to relay transmit power information to Cisco Aironet and Cisco Compatible wireless client devices. Client devices use the TPC information in conjunction with the access point's signal strength to calculate path loss and the transmit power necessary for the client to reach the Cisco Aironet access point. This feature extends client device battery life.
RADIUS Server per SSID
This feature takes advantage of existing access point multiple SSID capabilities to allow specification of RADIUS servers on a per-SSID basis. This is beneficial for multitenant deployments, such as airports, where each tenant desires a separate RADIUS server for user authentication.
Additional Information
Converting Cisco Aironet 1200 and 350 Series Access Points to Cisco IOS Software
The Cisco Aironet Conversion Tool for Cisco IOS Software, and the Cisco Aironet Conversion Upgrade Image file, facilitate the conversion of a Cisco Aironet access point VxWorks operating system configuration file into a Cisco IOS Software configuration file. This tool is used to convert the operating system of Cisco Aironet 1200 Series access point platform AIR-AP1200 and bundled versions AIR-AP1220B-X*-K9 and AIR-AP1220A-X*-K9 or Cisco Aironet 350 Series versions AIR-AP352E2C-X*-K9 and AIR-AP352E2R-X*-K9 to Cisco IOS Software.
Once a Cisco Aironet access point operating system has been converted from VxWorks to Cisco IOS Software, it cannot be converted back to VxWorks. Operating system conversion from VxWorks to Cisco IOS Software is permanent. Please read the Cisco Aironet Conversion Tool release notes for more information.
