The Cisco® ONS 15530 8-port Fibre Channel/Gigabit Ethernet Aggregation Card for the Cisco ONS 15530 DWDM Multiservice Aggregation Platform provides efficient wavelength usage by aggregating up to eight Fibre Channel, fiber connectivity (FICON), or Gigabit Ethernet signals onto a single 10 Gbps wavelength. This enhances the Cisco ONS 15530, making it ideal for high-density storage and data-networking applications.

High-density service aggregation—Provides industry-leading aggregation capabilities of up to 8 Fibre Channel, FICON, or Gigabit Ethernet services per 10 Gbps ITU (International Telecommunication Union) wavelength or up to 2 services per 2.5 Gbps ITU wavelength. When used with a 32-wavelength system, such as the Cisco ONS 15540, up to 256 Fibre Channel, FICON, or Gigabit Ethernet services can be supported per fiber pair.

Investment protection—Provides customers with investment protection by allowing support of both low-density and high-density deployments with the same aggregation card in conjunction with 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps ITU trunk cards. Support for a mix of Fibre Channel, FICON, and Gigabit Ethernet allows the network to grow and evolve with customer requirements.

Scalability—Supports the ability to scale the network as new services are added. As a customer's network grows, Fibre Channel, FICON, and Gigabit Ethernet services can be easily added to a Cisco ONS 15530 network without service interruption.

Extended distances—Based on advanced buffer-to-buffer credit spoofing technology, the ONS 15530 significantly increases the distances supported for a disaster recovery solution based on the Fibre Channel and FICON protocols up to 320 km over a metro DWDM network.

Industry-leading aggregation of IBM Coupling Facility Links—Provides the unique ability to aggregate IBM Coupling Facility Links (ISC-1 peer-to-peer mode and ISC-3 compatibility mode) providing an efficient and cost-effective way to consolidate control links used in IBM GDPS storage solutions over a single DWDM wavelength.

Protection options—Offers several options for customers requiring an enhanced level of service availability including service-level client protection.

Performance monitoring—Offers digital performance monitoring providing customers added visibility into protocol statistics in addition to optical signal performance.

Certifications—Fully compatible with storage solutions from Cisco partners, including IBM GDPS, EMC SRDF, HP/Compaq DRM, HDS TrueCopy, allowing customers the flexibility of deploying the Cisco ONS 15530 platform in many different storage environments.

Storage applications—Aggregation of multiple Fibre Channel and FICON services for storage networking applications such as business continuance, disaster recovery, disk mirroring, and storage-area network (SAN) extension.

Data networking—Provides metro Gigabit Ethernet services over a scalable metro dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) backbone for high-bandwidth intercampus networking applications over 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps wavelengths. By networking IP traffic end-to-end in its native Ethernet format at wire speed and with full operations, administration, and management (OAM) capabilities, enterprises can avoid the added complexity and cost of protocol conversion and rate adaptation into another metropolitan-area network (MAN) or wide-area network (WAN) protocol.
