Cisco Systems announces the end of life of the Cisco 8-Port Multichannel T1 Port Adapter with Integrated CSU/DSU (PA-MC-8T1) and Cisco 8-Port Multichannel E1 Port Adapter with G.703 120-ohm Interface (PA-MC-8E1/120). The last day to order these Cisco port adapters is November 15, 2003. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until November 15, 2008. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the two affected port adapters.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco 8-Port Enhanced Multichannel T1/E1 Port Adapter with CSU/DSU (PA-MC-8TE1+), which offers the same cost-effectiveness and flexibility but also provides enhanced functionality. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco PA-MC-8T1 and PA-MC-8E1/120 to the PA-MC-8TE1+.

The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.

Product Migration Options

The recommended replacement for the Cisco PA-MC-8T1 and PA-MC-8E1/120 is the PA-MC-8TE1+ (Table 3). Some of the advantages of PA-MC-8TE1+ include the following:

256 independent High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) channels

Eight software-configurable T1 or E1 Primary Rate Interface (PRI) ports

Handles all major encapsulations, including ISDN and Frame Relay

Integrated channel service units/digital service units (CSUs/DSUs)

Load sharing across B-channels using Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol (MLPPP)
