End of Sale, Engineering, and Life for Cisco uBR7223 Universal Broadband Router and uBR-MC11C Cable Line Card

Cisco Systems, Inc. announces an update to the product bulletin on the end of sale, engineering, and life for the Cisco uBR7223 Universal Broadband Router and uBR-MC11C Cable Line Card. This addendum updates the recommended replacement bundle.

The Cisco uBR7246VXR-MC14C bundle-created to ease the migration from the Cisco uBR7223 to the Cisco uBR7246VXR excludes Cisco IOS® Software. The Cisco uBR7246VXR-MC14C bundle, available as of January 2003, includes one Cisco uBR7246VXR chassis, one Cisco uBR-MC14C line card, one Cisco NPE-225 Network Processing Engine, and one default flash disk. EOL Milestones, Definitions, and Calendar

EOL refers to all activities revolving around the discontinuation of a product. This product bulletin serves as formal notification of the Cisco uBR7223 Universal Broadband Router and the Cisco uBR-MC11C cable line card end-of-sale (EOS), end-of-engineering, and end-of-life (EOL) milestones.

Table 2 on the next page identifies the milestones, definitions, and dates.

Software Support

The recommended last software release for the Cisco uBR7223 and Cisco uBR-MC11C line card depends on the functions desired. DOCSIS 1.0 support is provided in Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1 EC. DOCSIS 1.1 support is provided in Cisco IOS Release 12.2 BC. Tables 4 and 5 list the images that will be supported for the Cisco uBR7223 and Cisco uBR-MC11C line card on an ongoing basis.

DOCSIS 1.1 and EuroDOCSIS 1.1 Support

Cisco is committed to supporting DOCSIS 1.1 and EuroDOCSIS 1.1 functionality on the Cisco uBR7223 limited to the functionality set provided no later than Cisco IOS Release 12.2(11)BC1. There are no plans to submit the Cisco uBR7223 for official DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.1 qualification. However, the higher performance Cisco uBR7246VXR, which runs identical Cisco IOS Software as the Cisco uBR7223 has been DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 qualified. Cisco uBR7100 Series, another possible replacement product, has been DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.0 qualified and will be submitted for DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.1 qualification in the first half of 2003.

DOCSIS 2.0 Support

The Cisco uBR7223 chassis and Cisco uBR-MC11C line card will not support DOCSIS 2.0.

PacketCable Support

The Cisco uBR7223 chassis and Cisco uBR-MC11C line card will not support PacketCable.

Substitute Products

Cisco uBR7246VXR and Cisco uBR7100 Series universal broadband routers are the recommended replacement products for the Cisco uBR7223. Please refer to Table 6 for details.

A new, value-priced bundle, Cisco uBR7246VXR-MC14C, has been created to ease the migration from the Cisco uBR7223 to the Cisco uBR7246VXR. The Cisco uBR7246VXR-MC14C bundle includes one Cisco uBR7246VXR chassis, one Cisco uBR-MC14C line card, one Cisco NPE-225 Network Processing Engine, and one default flash disk. The bundle was available and orderable as of January 2003. Please check the published Cisco Price List for pricing information.

Availability

The Cisco uBR7223 and Cisco uBR-MC11C line card orderability will be closed on January 24, 2003. All replacement products listed above are available and orderable immediately, except for the new Cisco uBR7223-MC14C.

Trade-in Credit

Due to low utilization, the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (CTMP) program will no longer provide credit for the trade-in of Cisco uBR-MC14C toward a Cisco uBR-MC16C, Cisco uBR-MC16E, or Cisco uBR-MC16S, effective November 11, 2002.
