End of Life Announcement for Cisco Threat Response [Cisco Threat Response]

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-life date for Cisco® Threat Response, a free software solution. The last day to download the Cisco Threat Response software will be September 30, 2005. Customers will continue to receive policy updates and support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until September 30, 2005. Table 1 describes the milestones, definitions, and dates related to this products availability and support.

Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement. Cisco Threat Response was a free product designed to support intrusion detection software (IDS) deployments by automating the investigation of potential attacks. Now, with the release of Cisco's Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) solution and the innovative Cisco Secure MARS monitoring, analysis, and response product, the Threat Response software product is no longer required.

Last Date of Support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	September 30, 2005

CTR-K9-TRIAL	Cisco Threat Response is a free software solution that monitors alerts generated by Cisco IDS sensors. CTR investigates end host credentials and provides such context to IDS alarms.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

The recommended replacement for Cisco Threat Response software products is for customers to upgrade their Cisco IDS sensors to run the new Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) 5.0 software. The new inline Cisco IPS 5.0 software has the ability to accurately detect, classify, and stop threats including worms, spyware/adware, network viruses, and application abuse, denial of service, and other Anti-X threats. Innovative accurate prevention technologies have been included in the Cisco IPS 5.0 software which offset the need for Cisco Threat Response software product. Customers are also encouraged to evaluate and purchase the Cisco Secure MARS product for advanced event collection, analysis, and response.
