Cisco has introduced software application versions from the Cisco® Unified Communications portfolio (Versions 8.0(2) and later) that are supported for production use on specific configurations of VMware vSphere (ESXi), Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS™) servers, and various storage configurations:
• Tested reference configurations are provided for the following servers and described as follows:
– Cisco UCS B200 M2, B230 M2, and B440 M2 Blade Servers with third-party Fibre Channel SAN-attached disk arrays are supported (including a diskless server for VMware "boot from SAN" option).
– Cisco UCS C260 M2 Rack-Mount Server with a specific configuration of direct attached storage (DAS) is supported.
– Cisco UCS C210 M2 General-Purpose Rack-Mount Servers with specific configurations of either DAS or Fibre Channel SAN are supported (including a diskless server for VMware "boot from SAN" option).
– The Cisco UCS C200 M2 General-Purpose Rack-Mount Server with specific configurations of DAS is supported.
• Other server and storage options are available with "specifications-based VMware support", which is described at http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Specification-Based_Hardware_Support. Note that this approach has design and Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support implications. In addition, only select Cisco Unified Communications applications support this model.
Cisco Unified Communications applications require use of VMware vSphere 4 or 5 (ESXi) or Cisco Unified Communications Virtualization Foundation to support Cisco Unified Computing System hardware. No applications run or install directly on the server hardware; all applications run only as virtual machines. Cisco Unified Communications does not support a physical, bare-metal, or nonvirtualized installation on this server hardware.
Cisco Unified Computing System configurations for Cisco Unified Communications must follow the criteria listed in this document to be supported. Deviations from the tested reference configurations are not supported unless such support is explicitly indicated at http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Tested_Reference_Configurations_(TRC). Also note that Cisco Unified Communications applications require specific minimum versions to be supported on these platforms.
The following sections provide Cisco part numbers for all procurement options, as well as support policies for configurations that differ from the tested reference configurations.
Note that for all procurement options, the server part numbers ordered are independent of the Cisco Unified Communications applications and versions installed to run as VMware virtual machines on the server hardware.
Rack-mount kits, power supplies, and power cords are not included with Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers. These components are purchased with the Cisco UCS 5100 Series Blade Server Chassis and Cisco UCS 6100 Series Fabric Interconnects.
Rack-mount kits, power supplies, and power cords are included with tested reference configurations of Cisco UCS C210 and UCS C200 General-Purpose Rack-Mount Servers if they are ordered using the fixed-configuration part numbers listed in Table 1.

Special Ordering Instructions for Cisco Unified Computing System
You have these options to order servers:
• Follow the tested reference configuration (recommended if new to virtualization and hardware sizing). Order either the preset Cisco Collaboration part number in Table 1 or the equivalent build-to-order set of data center part numbers in Tables 2 through 9. Either order will ship the parts listed in Tables 2 through 9. Few parts substitution options are supported (such as additional memory); refer to http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized for what is supported. Parts substitutions will result in slight differences from Tables 2 through 9, and are available only through build-to-order data center part numbers.
• Order a custom configuration (recommended if highly proficient with virtualization and hardware sizing, and customer needs something different from the tested reference configuration). Order a set of build-to-order data center part numbers, and follow the "specifications-based VMware support" policy described at http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized. You can use Tables 2 through 9 as guidance to assist with hardware sizing.
Additionally, a Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Server deployment contains several components (blade server, blade server chassis, fabric extender, and fabric interconnect switch) without which you do not have a complete solution. For Cisco Unified Communications application deployments you plan to run on this hardware, you must ensure that all solution components are in place. You must use Cisco Commerce Workspace or the Netformx DesignXpert ordering tool UCS Advisor to ensure that all other required components in addition to the blade server are in place and correctly ordered. These solutions have several other components besides the server hardware, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet networking, Fibre Channel storage network access, and third-party disk arrays. You must follow solution design guidelines and prerequisites to help ensure a complete solution and customer success. Refer to http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized and http://www.cisco.com/go/ucsrnd for more details.
Both Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Server and UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Server deployments require specific VMware software to support Cisco Unified Communications. Requirements are described at http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized.
This tested reference configuration is typically used for deployments that would normally run on Cisco MCS 7835 or MCS 7845 servers. Application co-residency is supported as described at http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized.

Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Server solutions also require several other components: blade server chassis, fabric extenders, and fabric interconnect switches. For illustration only, Tables 3 and 4 provide sample configurations for these solution components. These components are available only as Cisco Data Center part numbers. You must use the Cisco Commerce Workspace or Netformx DesignXpert ordering tool UCS Advisor to properly configure and order these components.
A sample configuration of the required Cisco UCS 5100 Blade Server Chassis, including the Cisco UCS 2104XP Fabric Extender, is listed in Table 3. Note that the same chassis can support both blade servers for Cisco Unified Communications and adjacent blade servers for third-party software. This configuration uses the maximum amount of configurable power supplies and fabric extender ports.

Cisco Application Software Ordering Information
Virtualized deployment on the Cisco Unified Computing System does not change the pricing, licensing, or ordering models used for Cisco Unified Communications applications.
For example, applications priced and licensed under Cisco Unified Workspace Licensing or Cisco User Connect Licensing are configured the same way whether they are to be deployed on VMware with the Cisco Unified Computing System or the Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers.
