INTRODUCTION
Cisco Systems® announces a new Cisco IOS® Software release for the Cisco® uMG9850 QAM Module. This product bulletin lists the hardware and software features that are supported in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(20)EU. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(20)EU is an Early Deployment (ED) release based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(20)EWA. It supports the Cisco uMG9850 QAM Module, and is strictly for use by cable operators deploying video-on-demand and digital broadcast services on a hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) access network.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(20)EU is supported by the Cisco Catalyst® 4500 Series Supervisor Engines II-Plus and IV only. It is not supported on the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engines II-Plus-TS, III, V, or V-10GE, the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series Supervisor Engine I or II, or any other Cisco switching or routing platforms.

New Software Features

• Enhanced Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Base (MIB) support
MPEG-2 Digital Broadcast Services
This release enables cable operators to utilize the Cisco uMG9850 QAM Module to deliver digital broadcast services to their subscribers. The Cisco uMG9850 can receive a Multiprogram Transport Stream (MPTS) via unicast or multicast from a digital video source, and transmit the MPTS on one or more QAM channels across the HFC network to digital set-top boxes used by cable subscribers.
Enhanced Video Routing
With this release, the Cisco uMG9850 module no longer functions as an IP host. The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engine plays that role, and the enhanced video routing feature enables the aggregation of video traffic, resulting in fewer IP addresses required and a simplified IP network design.
Enhanced SNMP MIB Support
This release supports the following additional SNMP MIB: CISCO-VIDEO-NETWORK-EXT-MIB.
