Cisco Transport Manager 7.0

Product Bulletin No. 3248

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Cisco Systems® announces Cisco® Transport Manager Release 7.0, an intelligent element management system (EMS) that supports the latest versions of Cisco ONS Family network elements along with the Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1), Cisco XR 12000 Series Router, Cisco MGX® 8880 Media Gateway, and the voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 Multiservice Switches.

Cisco Transport Manager intelligently supports configuration, fault, performance, and security management and serves as a foundation for integration into a larger, overall OSS environment. Table 1 lists the new features available in Cisco Transport Manager Release 7.0; for further detail on new features refer to your sale representative.

Table 1. New Features in Cisco Transport Manager Release 7.0

Feature

Description

Modular installation and network-size upgrade

• Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 modular installation allows you to select only the components required to manage the specific technologies deployed on the network; optical, core router, and Cisco MGX media gateway. This feature reduces the time and server resources required to install the application.
• The Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 installer provides an option to upgrade from one network-configuration size to another. Network-size upgrades are as follows: medium to large, medium to high-end, and large to high-end.

Multilanguage support

Node, group, circuit, and link names can be displayed using an alias based on Unicode characters to enhance multilanguage support. Support has been validated for Japanese characters (can be validated for other languages) that can be used also when generating reports and when using the User Notification dialog box.

Communication states enhancements

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 adds support for two new node communication states. These are Only Reachable (indicates that node is IP reachable but cannot be discovered) and Initialization Failed (indicates that discovery cannot be completed).

Support for Cisco ONS 15310-MA Multiservice Platform Release 7.0

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 expands its scope to include operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning (OAM&P) for the Cisco ONS 15310-MA 7.0. Both Layer 1 and Layer 2 provisioning are extended to Cisco ONS 15310-MA 7.0.

Support for Cisco ONS 15305 Multiservice Customer Access Platform Release 3.0

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 expands its scope to include node/card OAM&P for the Cisco ONS 15305 Release 3.0. Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 extends end-to-end circuit provisioning capabilities over Cisco ONS 15305 Release 3.0 nodes.

Multi-shelf management for Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) 7.0

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 expands its scope to include OAM&P of multi-shelf nodes. A multi-shelf node can aggregate up to 8 shelves using a single public IP address or node identifier. This feature is a supported on the Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP 7.0.

Server-Trail provisioning

A Server Trail is a path/subnetwork connection in a server network used by the client network as a "black box" for transport purpose. With Cisco Transport Manager 7.0, you can provision Server Trails through the server network to be used for routing purposes. Server Trails are represented in the Network Map as dotted lines. This feature is available only for Cisco Transport Controller-based network elements.

Circuit trace enhancements

The Circuit Trace window in Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 is now context-sensitive. You can launch the NE Explorer or perform port operations by selecting the graphical objects representing nodes and ports.

Circuit creation enhancements

In Cisco Transport Manager 7.0, users selecting manual routing during circuit provisioning can choose between a graphical or text-based interface. When using the manual routing graphical interface, the destination nodes will be automatically selected after the span is selected. You can restrict circuit routing to spans that have a specific timeslot available.

Optical Channel Client Connection (OCHCC) provisioning

With Cisco Transport Manager 7.0, you can provision optical channel client connection (OCHCC) circuits between client and trunk ports of a Cisco ONS 15454 node. OCHCC circuits can be traced using the Circuit Trace window, allowing you to follow a specific wavelength path from source transponder or ITU line card to destination transponder or ITU line card.

Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Class Map provisioning for the Cisco ONS 15454 ML-Series cards

With Cisco Transport Manager 7.0, you can enable or disable RSTP on Layer 2 services while creating a Layer 2 service and while creating or modifying Layer 2 service drops. Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 allows you to enable or disable Class Map provisioning during Layer 2 topology creation.

Layer 3 VPN provisioning for Cisco CRS-1 and Cisco XR 12000 Series

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 supports Layer 3 VPN features in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 3.3. You can manage node-based configuration or Virtual Route Forwarding (VRF), VRF and interface association, and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) enhancements for 2547bis VPN. You can also provision BGP, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and Static Routing as the protocols for the routing between the provider edge and the customer edge routers.

Logging enhancements

Cisco Transport Manager 7.0 offers higher granularity for debugging options, allowing you to troubleshoot problems quicker. You can access the debug options at three different levels: Service, Service Instance, and Network Element level. You can select only the instance that requires troubleshooting.
