These release notes describe features and caveats for Cisco Aironet 340, 500, and 4800 Series Wireless Bridges and 4800 Series Access Points running firmware version 8.65_2. Firmware version 8.65_2 fixes defect CSCdw63248.

Introduction
Cisco Aironet Access Points are wireless LAN transceivers that can act as the center point of a standalone wireless network or as the connection point between wireless and wired networks. Cisco Aironet Wireless Bridges are wireless LAN transceivers that connect two or more remote networks into a single LAN.
Note
Do not install firmware version 8.65_2 for bridges and access points on workgroup bridges that are running firmware version 8.37 or earlier. To upgrade the firmware on a workgroup bridge, use firmware version 8.65_2 for workgroup bridges.
System Requirements
You must have a 340, 500, or 4800 series bridge or a 4800 series access point to install firmware version 8.65_2.
Version Supported
Your bridge or access point must have version 7.0 or later to upgrade to version 8.65_2.
Upgrading to a New Firmware Release
Determining the Firmware Version
The firmware version number appears in the top left corner of the screen in the browser-based management system. To view the browser-based management system, type the device's IP address in the Internet browser address line.
Upgrade Procedure
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware in your bridge or access point:
Step 1
Use this URL to find firmware version 8.65_2:
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html
Step 2
In the Filename column, click [firmware version 8.65_2]. Follow the instructions for saving the file to your local drive.
Step 3
Use an Internet browser to open the management system on the bridge or access point. To browse to the management system, type the bridge's or access point's IP address in the browser address line and press Enter.
Step 4
When the management system opens, click Allow Config Changes in the top left corner of the page.
Step 5
Click Load in the Diagnostics column near the top of the page.
Step 6
In the Value column, click Browse. Find the local drive where you saved the new firmware version and select the firmware file.
Step 7
Click Send. The new firmware is loaded and the bridge or access point reboots.
New Features
This section describes new features in firmware version 8.65, which are also included in version 8.65_2.
Reset to Factory Defaults in Case of Lost Password
If you forget the password that allows you to configure the bridge or access point through the console port, you might need to completely reset the configuration. Follow these steps to delete the current configuration and return all settings to the factory defaults:
Step 1
Use a straight-through cable with 9-pin male to 9-pin female connectors to connect the COM 1 or COM 2 port on your computer to the RS-232 port on the bridge or access point. You can select the Reset option only through the console port.
Step 2
Open a terminal-emulation program on your computer.
Note
These instructions describe HyperTeminal; other programs are similar.
Step 3
In the Connection Description window, enter a name and select an icon for the connection and click OK.
Step 4
In the Connect To window, select the port to which the cable is connected and click OK.
Step 5
In the Port Settings window, enter the following settings:
•
9600 baud,
•
8 data bits,
•
No parity,
•
1 stop bit, and
•
Xon/Xoff flow control
Step 6
Click OK and press Enter.
Step 7
When the Main Menu screen appears, reboot the bridge or access point by turning the unit off and then turning it back on.
Step 8
When the bridge or access point reboots and the Main Menu screen reappears, type 2 to select Reset and press Enter.
Note
The Reset option appears only if you enable password protection for console write privileges.
Step 9
Type yes and press Enter to confirm the command.
Note
The Reset command is valid for only 2 minutes immediately after the bridge or access point reboots. If you do not enter and confirm the reset command during that 2 minutes, reboot the bridge or access point again.
Step 10
After the bridge or access point reboots, reconfigure it by using the terminal emulator or an Internet browser.
Caveats
This section lists resolved and open software issues in firmware version 8.65_2.

Resolved Caveats
The following caveat has been resolved in firmware version 8.65_2:
•
Resolved: CSCdw63248—An error can occur with management protocol processing. For more information, see the Bug Toolkit.
The following caveats were resolved in firmware version 8.65 and are also resolved in version 8.65_2:
•
Resolved: Code Red virus causes lock-up (CSCdv01662). The Code Red virus attacks 340, 500, and 4800 series wireless bridges, 4800 series access points, and 340 and 350 series workgroup bridges. The unit stops operating and must be rebooted.
•
Resolved: 340 series bridge crashes when associated to a 350 series bridge (CSCdu12423). When a 340 series bridge configured as a non-root bridge associates to a 350 series bridge configured as a root bridge, the 340 series bridge crashes.
•
Resolved: Repeater bridge loses association and hangs (CSCdt72430). A bridge in repeater mode loses association and stops operating when used in a mobile setup, such as on a cart or on a forklift.
•
Resolved: Large ping causes bridge to crash (CSCdt96943). Any ping to the unit from 0x7fff to 0xffff bytes causes an AP4800, a BR500, or a BR34x to crash.
Open Caveats
•
Distribute Configuration feature fails to distribute configuration to other units (CSCdv07929). 340 series bridges, 4800 series access points, and 340 and 350 series workgroup bridges fail to distribute a configuration to other units when you select newer for How to control distributions. Workaround: Select any or password for How to control distributions to make sure all units receive the configuration.
•
Two bridges in access point mode cannot use WEP (CSCdu72573). When a 340 series bridge in access point mode and configured as a repeater associates to another 340 series bridge in access point mode, WEP does not funtion correctly.

Stale Out Time Setting
The bridge's web-browser management system includes a Wired LAN stale out time setting on the Configuration — Ethernet page. Use this setting to control the number of seconds the bridge continues to track a device in its association table when the device is inactive. Enter a value between 5 and 1000 seconds. (Five minutes equals 300 seconds; ten minutes equals 600 seconds.)
