Initial Configuration Recommendations
Note
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)JA and later software, the access point/bridge with a default configuration requests an IP address from your DHCP server, and if it does not receive an IP address, it continues to send requests indefinitely. It does not have a default IP address.
Note
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(4)JA and later software, the radio interface is disabled by default for security reasons and does not contain a default SSID. This prevents you from performing the initial configuration using the radio interface.
Console Port
You can use the power injector's console port for entering CLI commands. Follow these steps to connect to the power injector's console port:
Step 1
Connect a nine-pin, female DB-9 to RJ-45 serial cable to the RJ-45 serial console port on the power injector and to the COM port on a computer.
Note
The Cisco part number for the DB-9 to RJ-45 serial cable is AIR-CONCAB1200. Browse to http://www.cisco.com/go/marketplace to order a serial cable.
Step 2
Set up a terminal emulator, such as Windows Hyper Terminal, to communicate with the access point/bridge. Use the following settings for the terminal emulator connection: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control.
Step 3
The access point/bridge default username and password and the enable password are all Cisco (case sensitive).
Note
When your configuration changes are completed, you must remove the serial cable from the console port.
You can use Cisco IOS commands to configure a static IP address on the BVI1 interface, which enables you to browse or Telnet to the access point/bridge using Ethernet. For example:
ap#configure terminalap(config)#interface bvi1ap(config-if)#ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0ap(config-if)#exitap#write memoryEthernet Port
When using a web browser (HTTP) or Telnet connection through the power injector's Ethernet port, follow these steps:
Step 1
Connect the power injector's Ethernet port to a LAN containing a running DHCP server.
Step 2
Power up the access point/bridge unit.
Step 3
Check the DHCP server's lease table to find the IP address assigned to the access point/bridge's client ID.
Step 4
Use the IP address to Telnet or browse to the access point/bridge. The default username and password are both Cisco (case sensitive).
Antenna Recommendations
•
AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 has a single integrated antenna and is not configurable for antenna selection (diversity/left/right). The x represents your regulatory region.
•
AIR-BR1310G-x-K9-R does not ship with an antenna because many different external antennas can be used with this product to cover various environments and applications. You must install one or two external antennas. The x represents your regulatory region. For additional information on antennas and accessories, refer to this URL:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5861/products_data_sheets_list.html
–
If two diversity antennas are installed, Cisco recommends that you configure Diversity for the antenna receive and antenna transmit settings.
–
If only one antenna is installed, Cisco recommends that you connect it to the right RP-TNC antenna connector and that you configure Right (Primary) for the antenna receive and antenna transmit settings.
