Before You Install the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS
Note
The Cisco WebEx Node for MCS described in this module is an optional component of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. It is not to be confused with the Cisco WebEx Node for ASR and cannot be used for a WebEx SaaS implementation.
Updating the Firmware on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or 7845-I3
Note
This procedure only applies when the Release 8.5 Cisco WebEx Node for MCS is installed on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or a Cisco MCS 7845-I3.
Caution 
Complete this procedure and update the firmware before the installation of the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS.
Procedure
Step 1
Obtain the FWUCD 3-6-4-I.iso (or later) image by using one of the following:
•
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/voiceapp/ps378/index.html. Select your MCS, then Download Software.
•
Products > Voice and Unified Communications > Communications Infrastructure > Voice Servers > Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers. Select your MCS, then Voice Applications OS Firmware.
Step 2
Burn this ISO image on a CD.
Step 3
Insert the CD into the disc drive.
Step 4
If necessary, change the boot order and boot the Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or 7845-I3 server from the CD.
Step 5
Choose option 1, Start Computer with CD-ROM Support.
IBM UpdateXpressSystemPackInstaller starts.
Step 6
Accept the license.
Step 7
Select Upgrade.
Step 8
Select Next once the upgrade is completed.
The firmware upgrade completes.
Step 9
Open the disc drive and replace the firmware CD with the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS installation DVD.
Step 10
Reboot the server, and install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace component.
Gathering Installation Values
Gather and record the following information to prepare for your installation of the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS.

Installing the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS on a Virtual Machine
If you are planning to install the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS on a virtual machine, then note the following:
•
(Cisco UCS C210 M2 Server or UCS B-Series Server) The virtual machine must have 8 vCPU (2.66 GHz), 8 GB RAM, and a 300GB hard drive.
•
(Cisco UCS C200 M2 Server) The virtual machine must have 4 vCPU (2.66 GHz), 8 GB RAM, and a 300GB hard drive.
•
Install one virtual machine, per blade, on a Cisco UCS B-Series or C-Series Server.
•
When installing the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system, be sure your LAN connection supports at least 1 Gb/s (gigabits per second).
Note
The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system does not support snapshots on virtual machines.

Installing the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS
Note
The Cisco WebEx Node for MCS described in this module is an optional component of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. It is not to be confused with the Cisco WebEx Node for ASR and cannot be used for a WebEx SaaS implementation.
Note
If you add the Cisco WebEx Node to an existing Cisco WebEx integration deployment, then remember to set the Deployment includes Cisco WebEx Node field to Yes on the Cisco WebEx Site. Ask the Cisco WebEx Customer Support Engineer (CSE) to enable this option on the Cisco WebEx site.
Note
If for any reason, you cancel or stop the installation, then reinstall at a later time from the beginning from the DVD.
Before You Begin
•
Complete all the tasks in Before You Install the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS.
•
Physical machine—install directly on the physical server. We do not support installing the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS software remotely when installing on a physical machine.
•
Virtual machine—you can use the vSphere Client to access the virtual machine and run the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS installation binary. Be sure your LAN connection supports at least 1 Gb/s (gigabits per second).
Note
For a virtual machine on the UCS B-Series Server, use IE and UCS Manager to install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Cisco WebEx Node for MCS Software.

You may use the following keyboard shortcuts during the installation. The shortcuts correspond to the buttons displayed in each of the installer panels. The keyboard shortcut is enabled only if the corresponding button is displayed in the installer panel.

Procedure
Step 1
Turn on the system (power on the virtual machine).
Step 2
If you are installing on a virtual machine, skip to Step 3. If you are installing on a physical machine, then insert the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Cisco WebEx Node for MCS software DVD into the DVD-ROM drive. Boot the computer from the DVD.
Step 3
If you are installing on a virtual machine, then configure the boot options to boot from the DVD.
a.
Select VM > Edit Settings.
b.
Select the Options tab and select Boot Options.
c.
Set the Power On Boot Delay to 10,000 and select OK.
d.
Boot the virtual machine. During power on, press Esc to go to the Boot Menu.
e.
Connect to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Cisco WebEx Node for MCS software DVD in the virtual CD/DVD drive. Select CD/DVD Drive 1 > Connect to <local_drive> or Connect to host device.
You can use either the CD/DVD drive on the computer connected to the vSphere Client, connect the DVD drive on the host server to the virtual machine, or if you have a Cisco UCS B-Series Server, use the bundled USB connector to connect to a USB external DVD drive.
f.
Ensure that CD-ROM Drive is at the top of the Boot Menu. If not, use the arrow keys to navigate to CD-ROM Drive and press Enter.
Step 4
The installation program checks that your platform is valid.
•
Physical machine—If your platform is invalid, the installation program displays an error message and the installation stops. Otherwise, the installation continues.
•
Virtual machine—The installation program checks the platform against the minimum specifications. If your virtual platform does not satisfy the minimum specifications, then the installation program displays a warning message, and the installation continues.
Step 5
The installation program checks for an existing operating system.
•
If you have an existing operating system, the installation program asks if you want to overwrite it. If you do not want to overwrite it, select Restart. The installation stops and the machine reboots.
Otherwise, click Continue, then Yes. The installation continues, and overwrites the existing data.
Step 6
The installation program checks the hard drive, the BIOS, and the RAID.
•
If the installation program does not need to reconfigure any part of the system, it displays a green check mark and the installation continues.
•
If the installation program needs to reconfigure any part of the system, it displays two green circular arrows and automatically reboots. After rebooting, the installation process restarts at Step 4.
•
Depending on your system configuration, it may reboot up to three times. This happens automatically.
The installation program continues to the media check.
Note
The BIOS and RAID are not updated if you are installing on a virtual machine.
Step 7
Select Check Media. If you do not make a selection, then the media check starts automatically in one minute.
Although you may skip it, we highly recommend you do the media check, which can take up to 15 minutes.
If the media check fails, the installation is automatically terminated. Otherwise, the installation continues.
Step 8
The installation program loads and installs the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Linux operating system from the DVD.
This takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Following the operating system installation, the installation program performs system configuration.
Step 9
The DVD-ROM drive ejects the DVD when the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Linux operating system installation is complete. Select Restart.
•
Physical machine—Keep the DVD in the drive but do not close it.
•
Virtual machine—You do not need to do anything, as the server boots first from the hard drive (unless you changed the boot order).
The system reboots automatically and starts the configuration wizard.
Configuring the Cisco WebEx Node Software
Procedure
Step 1
Select Next from the Welcome to Cisco Unified Communications page.
Step 2
Read the End User License Agreement. If you agree, select the Yes, I agree to the License Agreement radio button, then select Next.
Step 3
For the following users, enter a Password, confirm the password, then select Next.

Note
Check Do not enforce password rules if you want to bypass these password restrictions. We do not recommend this.
Step 4
Enter values in the following fields on the Network Configuration page. Select Next.
All fields are required except for the Secondary DNS field:

Hostname
•
IP Address
•
Subnet Mask
•
Gateway
Step 5
Confirm your network configuration, then select Next. If you want to make a change, then select Back and enter the correct information.
Step 6
Select the Time zone that best represents where the system resides. Select Continue.
You may also select the Time zone by clicking your location on the world map. The location is marked by a red X, and is specified in the Location field.
Step 7
Select the Date and the current Time. Select Continue.
Note
After you complete the installation, the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS synchronizes with the Cisco WebEx site. In this step, you are setting the time zone, date, and time for the first connection only.
Step 8
Enter values in the following fields on the Cisco WebEx page. Select Next.
Note
If you do not enter values here, then you must add the information using the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS Command-Line Interface (CLI). See the Using the Command-Line Interface (CLI) on the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS module. You cannot test or use the Cisco WebEx Node until you have entered all these values.

Step 9
Enter values to link the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS to the Application Server. Check the WebEx Scheduling or MeetingPlace Scheduling check box for your deployment type, then select Next.
Step 10
If you selected MeetingPlace Scheduling, enter the following, then select Next. Otherwise, skip to Step 11. When complete, go to Step 12.

Application Server 1

Hostname of the Application Server 1

Password for the mpxadmin user of the Application Server
b.
Check the Application Server Failover Configured check box if your system is configured for failover. Enter the following:
–
Hostname of Application Server 2 (if required for your deployment)
–
Password for the mpxadmin user of the Application Server 2
–
Shared hostname of the Application Servers
Step 11
If you selected WebEx Scheduling, enter the hostname (FQDN) for the following, then select Next.
•
Primary Meeting Broker Director
•
Secondary Meeting Broker Director (if required for your deployment)
Step 12
Select Next once the Application Server is configured.
Step 13
Select Exit.
The system reboots and then displays a prompt. You can sign in as the root user or as the wbxadmin user to access the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS command-line interface.

Troubleshooting the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS Installation
Problem
During the installation, the system hangs.
Explanation This may be because you skipped the media check.
Solution
If you skipped the media check, abort the installation and start over. Do not skip the media check this time.
Problem
The system tries to connect with the Application Server, but only returns error messages are returned.
Explanation The Application Server is not up.
Explanation You entered an incorrect password for the mpxadmin user.
Explanation The Cisco WebEx Node for MCS may have misconfigured network information.
Explanation Your system may be experiencing general network connectivity issues.
Solution
Be sure that the information you enter is correct and try again.
Error Message Unable to resolve IP for "server name".
Explanation If you get this error message when the system tries to connect with the Application
Server, then the DNS resolution from the server name to an IP address failed.
Solution
Verify that the DNS mapping exists. Check the network information to ensure that the name server is correct. You should be able to ping the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS from the Application Server by entering a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).
Error Message Unable to contact server "server name".
Explanation If you get this error message when the system tries to connect with the Application
Server, then the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS was unable to contact the server by its hostname.
Solution
Check the network connectivity from the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS to the Application Server.
Error Message Invalid password for server "server name".
Explanation If you get this error message when the system tries to connect with the Application
Server, then the mpxadmin password provided for the server was incorrect.
Check that the password that you entered for the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS is correct.

Testing the Basic Installation
Restriction
•
You must have completely finished the Cisco WebEx Node for MCSNode installation before you can test it. During the installation, entering some values is optional. If you do not enter the values during the installation, you must enter them by using the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS CLI. Then you can proceed to test the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS installation.
•
Schedule an Internal meeting and invite corporate users to join this meeting. If an external guest user attempts to join this internal meeting, the guest user should see a message stating that the guest is no longer connected to the meeting and that the system is attempting to reconnect. Ensure that only internal users, on the corporate network or on VPN, can join this Internal meeting.
•
Schedule an External meeting and test that internal users join on the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS and that guest users join on Cisco WebEx Cloud. Ensure that the guest user can see what is shared by an Internal participant.
Procedure
Step 1
Go to the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS operating system command-line interface.
Step 2
Sign in as the user called wbxadmin and enter the correct password.
Step 3
Enter show webex status.
The system displays the current status of the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS.
Troubleshooting Tips
If the system does not display the current status of the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS, do the following:
•
Verify that you entered all the required information.
•
Verify that the Cisco WebEx information that you entered is correct.
•
Reinstall the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS.

Validating the Ethernet Connection
Follow this procedure to ensure that the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS is properly connected to the network.
Procedure
Step 1
Go to the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS command-line interface and sign in as the user called wbxadmin.
Step 2
Enter show network interfaces.
The system displays output.
Step 3
Ensure that the "link detected" parameter at the bottom says yes.
Note
If it says no, the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS is not connected to the network. Contact your network administrator to determine why it is not connected to the network.
Verifying Cisco WebEx Node Registration to the Cisco WebEx Collaboration Cloud
Before You Begin
If you do not already have an account for the Cisco WebEx Node Management System, then contact your Cisco WebEx administrator to obtain one.
Procedure
Step 1
Sign in to the Cisco WebEx Node Management System.
Use the username and password that was provided by Cisco WebEx for your Cisco WebEx Node Management System account.
Step 2
Select Administration > Node Management.
Step 3
Find your Cisco WebEx Node (for MCS or for a virtual machine).
Step 4
Verify that the Status is either Registered or Activated.
If an error is displayed, then read the error information to begin troubleshooting. Contact your Cisco WebEx administrator for help if necessary.
