Release 6.0(639.0)
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0(639.0) is a maintenance release that contains fixes to defects and product enhancements. See the "Caveats" section for a list of these defects and enhancements.
Some of the key enhancements include:
•
CSCsz10341: The "Configure Strings" pages have been rewritten so that they are now consistent with other pages.
•
CSCsz21797: Added the ability to enable or disable the File Share pod in the meeting room.
•
CSCsz22452: Added support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.
Release 6.0(517.0)
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0(517.0) is a maintenance release that contains fixes to defects and product enhancements. See the "Caveats" section for a list of these defects and enhancements.
Some of the key enhancements include:
•
CSCsw26383: Restricted access to admin pages on external (DMZ) server.
You can only access the administration pages for the external (DMZ) server from the server box itself and only through port 8002. If you try to access the administration pages on the external (DMZ) server by using http://<host_name>/mpweb/admin/, the system will display a 404 "Page Not Found" error.
To access the administration pages for the external (DMZ) server, you must be on the web server box and enter the following URL: http://localhost:8002/mpweb/admin/
Note
If SSL is enabled on your system, you must still enter the URL with http and not https.
•
Cisco WebEx integration enhancements
•
CSCsk17059: Force password for reservationless does not work from web
•
CSCsm94997: When profile is set to pwd mtgs, immediate web no password is needed
•
CSCso55776: Record mtg not on the meeting option page and will not sync with profile
•
CSCsl27101: Support local SQL Server for MPWEB Slave SQL database in WebConnect
•
CSCsr44191: Support for Firefox 3.0
Release 6.0(417.0)
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0(417.0) is a maintenance release that contains fixes to defects and product enhancements. See the "Caveats" section for a list of these defects and enhancements.
One noteworthy change based on CSCsk42671: Removed the Purge Meetings Held Before (Days) parameter from the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server. The Days until Mtg Stats Purged parameter on the Audio Server now controls when past meetings are purged on all Web Servers attached to this Audio Server. The impact is that when a meeting record is purged on the Audio Server, the same meeting record (and any attachments) is also deleted from the Web Server at the same time.
Release 6.0(361.0)
•
Changed Method of Configuring Guest Outdials
•
Added an NTP Configuration Feature
•
Added WebEx Functionality
Changed Method of Configuring Guest Outdials
Removed the field called Allow Guest Outdial which lets you configure whether guests can dial out from a meeting. That functionality can now be configured using the Can Call Out From Meetings field which can be configured on a profile-by-profile basis for both individual user profiles and the guest user profile which is used for all guests.
•
If the Can Call Out From Meetings field is set to True for the guest user profile, then guest users can dial out of meetings.
•
If the Can Call Out From Meetings field is set to False for the guest user profile, then guest users cannot dial out of meetings.
•
If the Can Call Out From Meetings field is set to True for a user profile, then that user can dial out of meetings.
•
If the Can Call Out From Meetings field is set to False for a user profile, then that user cannot dial out of meetings.
Note
For configurations that use WebEx, you must set the Can Call Out From Meetings field to True for the guest user profile because all WebEx users are considered guests.
Added an NTP Configuration Feature
Added a feature so that Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing automatically sets up the Windows operating system to use the Windows Time Service to synchronize its clock with the NTP server. This keeps the web server synchronized with the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
Note
By default, NTP uses UDP port 123. If your web server is in the DMZ and your Audio Server is not, you will have to open UDP port 123 in your firewall for the default NTP configuration to work. The default configuration is the web server synchronizing with the Audio Server as the NTP server.
You can also use an alternate NTP server instead of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server. Complete this procedure to configure your system with an alternate NTP server.
Note
If you decide to use an alternate NTP server for your web server time synchronization, make sure that your NTP setup keeps the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server and web server perfectly in sync. If the two servers are not time-synchronized, certain features will not work.
Before You Begin
Stop the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing master service before you adjust the system clock time or perform a manual NTP synchronization.
Restrictions
Do not adjust the clock on the Windows computer while the web conferencing application is running on the system.
Procedure
Step 1
Shut down the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing master service.
Step 2
Double-click the Window Time icon on the Windows system tray.
Step 3
Choose the Internet Time tab.
Step 4
Choose to automatically synchronize with an Internet time server.
Step 5
Specify your server name inside the Server: field.
We highly recommend that you manually verify that the clocks on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server and your web server are synchronized. Use the date command on the Audio Server to obtain the current date and time.
Added WebEx Functionality
Added functionality so that end users can attend meetings using the WebEx interface. This feature allows you to do the following:
•
Choose WebEx as your web conference provider.
•
Record and store WebEx meetings.
•
Use the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Telephone User Interface (TUI) to help manage the WebEx audio conference.
•
Configure a Cisco Unified MeetingPlace server with an associated WebEx site.
•
Access WebEx conference-related usage reports and other conference statistical data.
•
Use the WebEx meeting room to share documents, presentations, and other material.
•
Annotate material shared in a WebEx meeting room, and store that annotated material for later distribution.
•
Take advantage of the WebEx conference features, including text chat, recorded meetings, meeting notes, and more.
•
Assign WebEx as the default conference provider to entire groups or to single users.
•
Give users the option to select WebEx or Cisco Unified MeetingPlace as the web conference provider when scheduling a meeting.
•
Access and download WebEx user and administrator documentation.
•
Distribute meeting notes, text chat, and shared documents by e-mail after the WebEx meeting is completed.
If the host mutes one or more meeting participants, the meeting participants can only unmute themselves from the phone by entering #5. They cannot unmute themselves from the web meeting room. This behavior persists until the host unmutes the meeting participants from the web meeting room.
Release 6.0(244.0)
•
Added Russian Language Pack
•
Uninterrupted Installation
•
Passwords Required for All Meeting Attendees
•
Added Ability to Configure Against a Multiple LDAP Forest
•
Changed Functionality for Updating all Profiles
Added Russian Language Pack
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace now supports the Russian language. This release includes a language pack for the Russian language. When using the Russian language pack, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system can display Cyrillic characters; however, the system does not support entries of Cyrillic characters when creating user profiles in the administration interface.
For complete information about installing and using the language pack, see the Localization Procedure for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 5.4 and 6.0 at the following location: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/meetingplace/6x/audioserver/localization/54_60mplocproc.html
Uninterrupted Installation
In this release, you no longer need to log in to the Web Conferencing server after you click Finish when you download the Web Conferencing server installation files. The installation process proceeds automatically.
Passwords Required for All Meeting Attendees
In previous releases, by default, the system did not ask the following users to enter a meeting password (if one is required) when attending a meeting via the web:
•
The meeting scheduler
•
The contact for the meeting scheduler
•
Attendants or higher
•
Invited users
By default, for fresh installations of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0(244.0), the system requires that all users enter the meeting password (if one is required) when attending a meeting via the web.
If you are upgrading to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0(244.0) from an earlier version, the previous release behavior is not changed. The behavior only changes if you do a fresh installation.
Added Ability to Configure Against a Multiple LDAP Forest
Added the ability to authenticate users against a multiple LDAP forest configuration.
Changed Functionality for Updating all Profiles
Changed the functionality when using the "update all profiles" option in the administration interface. Previously, choosing this option would only refresh the existing user profiles, but in this release, choosing this option copies all the user profiles from the Audio Server. The "periodic poll" option still only refreshes the existing user profiles.
Note
This periodic poll behavior is only for Release 6.0(244.0). It was removed in Release 6.0(361.0).

New Licenses Required for Components
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 6.0 introduced a new license usage model for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing. In this model, users joining a Cisco Unified MeetingPlace meeting from the web see one of two meeting console formats, with different license requirements:
Full meeting room
|
Includes tools for sharing and collaboration, in-session controls, and other features such as chat and polling.
Requires an available web conferencing license for each participant.
|
Participant list only
|
Includes only the list of meeting participants and associated audio and video controls (such as mute audio and pause video).
No web conferencing license is required to use this meeting console; it is included in the license for an audio port.
|
The meeting console format that participants see in a meeting depends on the Host Meetings With setting in the profile of the meeting scheduler. When planning for web conferencing license usage, consider the licensing capacity of your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server and determine which groups or individuals should have the capability to schedule meetings that utilize the full meeting room.
Add web conferencing licenses to the Audio Server by following the procedures on the DocWiki at http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cisco_Unified_MeetingPlace%2C_Release_6.x_--_About_Loading_License_Keys.
Segmented Meeting Access-1 Server Configuration Is No Longer Supported
The Segmented Meeting Access-1 Server (SMA-1S) configuration supported in previous releases of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing is no longer supported in Release 6.0.
Two IP Addresses Required for the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Server
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0 has the following networking requirements:
•
Two separate IP addresses are required.
•
The IP addresses must be on the same network segment. (Both must be connected to the same Layer 3 subnet and the same Layer 2 Ethernet broadcast domain.)
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing supports assigning the two required IP addresses by using the following Network Interface Card (NIC) configurations:
One NIC enabled and configured with two IP addresses; second NIC is disabled
|
• Only utilizes one of the two NICs on the system.
• The NIC is a single point of failure.
• This configuration is available for both HP and IBM MCS server models
|
Both NICs enabled, one IP address per NIC
|
• Each NIC on the system is used, although one NIC may be more heavily used than the other.
• Each NIC is a single point of failure. If either NIC fails, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing will be unavailable.
• If the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server is connected to a 100 Mbps network, the NIC capacity may be exceeded in large meetings with heavy application sharing.
• This configuration is available for both HP and IBM MCS server models.
|
Both NICs enabled, teamed, configured in Transmit Load Balancing (TLB) mode
|
• The two NICs act together to handle traffic for both IP addresses; one NIC receives inbound traffic, both NICs send outbound traffic.
• If either NIC fails, the other NIC can take over.
• We strongly recommend this configuration if the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server is connected to a 100 MBps. network.
• This configuration is available only for HP MCS server models.
|
Both NICs enabled, teamed, configured in Network Fault Tolerance (NFT) mode
|
• One NIC is active, handling traffic for both IP addresses.
• The other NIC is passive and takes over if the primary NIC fails.
• This configuration is available only for HP MCS server models.

Cisco Unified Personal Communicator Users Can Launch Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferences
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator users can launch ad-hoc Cisco Unified MeetingPlace web conferences from their Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients to share and collaborate on a whiteboard, desktop, application, or document. These ad-hoc conferences do not include Cisco Unified MeetingPlace audio; participants can join the meeting room via their Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients but can not dial in to the conference or dial out to a phone from the meeting room.
An ad-hoc web conference launched from Cisco Unified Personal Communicator has the following additional characteristics:
•
The conference is assigned a random meeting ID; it does not utilize the reservationless ID of the user who launches the meeting.
•
The conference is not publicly listed; users can not locate the conference by using the Find Meetings page or join the conference by entering the meeting ID in the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Home Page or by using Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Phone View.
•
The conference is not password protected.
•
No e-mail notification is generated for the conference.
•
The conference uses a special meeting template which includes only a share tool. All conference participants have presenter privileges.
Flash-Based Audio-Web and Web-Only Recordings
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing supports three types of recording: audio-only, synchronized audio-and-web, and web-only.
For audio plus web meetings, two recordings are created when a user records the meeting: an audio-only recording and Flash recording (which plays back in Adobe Flash Player). The Flash recording gives a synchronized playback of the voice stream and all meeting console activity during the meeting. The Flash recording begins when the web-conference portion of the meeting starts; any audio recorded before this point is available only in the audio-only recording.
If a meeting with a web component but no audio component is recorded, a Flash recording is made of the meeting console activity. As with the audio-and-web recording, when a user accesses a web-only recording, it plays back in Adobe Flash Player.
Note that recordings do not include broadcast prompts, such as "now joining" or "now departing." In addition, if there is a video component to the meeting, it does not record the video display.
Audio recording is a standard feature when you purchase Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Conferencing licenses. Integrated audio-and-web recording or web-only recording requires the purchase of the rich media recording option.
Flash-Based Meeting Console
The Java-based meeting console has been replaced in Release 6.0 with a new Adobe Flash-based client that requires Adobe Flash Player on end-user computers. The browser test, available via a link on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing home page, can assist users in installing Adobe Flash Player.
New features and functionality in the meeting console are further described in the following sections:
•
Meeting Console Permissions
•
Meeting Console Features and Tools
•
Animation Support in Presentations
•
Changing the Room Background
•

Meeting Console Permissions
Users attending a meeting are granted one of the following three meeting console permissions:
•
Moderator—Moderators have full control over the meeting. For example, they can change meeting console layouts, invite, rename, or eject participants or change participant permissions, and end the meeting.
•
Presenter—Presenters can share presentations, documents, and applications, modify notes and polls, and answer audience questions.
•
Audience—Audiences may view shared content, whiteboards, and notes, download files shared in the File Share tool, and answer polls within the meeting. They cannot share content, annotate on a whiteboard, upload files via the File Share tool, or modify notes.
Meeting Console Features and Tools
Table 1 gives an overview of the features that are available in the Flash-based meeting console. Table 2 describes the tools that can be used and combined in layouts to customize the meeting experience.
Table 1 Meeting Console Features
Feature
|
Description
|
Menus
|
Meeting and Help menus offer logical access to various in-session features. Moderators also have View, Layout, and Tools menus to control and organize the items that appear in the meeting console for presenters and participants. Menu items that are unavailable (because of the guest status of a user or meeting console permissions) appear dimmed.
|
Meeting details
|
Meeting details, including the meeting ID and dial-in information, appear when users click on the phone icon in the top right corner of the meeting console.
|
Connection details
|
Information about meeting console latency and current upstream and downstream connection rates appears when users click on the green bar in the top right corner of the meeting console.
|
Stage
|
The meeting room stage is the area of the screen that all participants see in a meeting. The stage contains tool windows that display various types of content, such as slides, video, or shared windows or applications.
|
Tool windows
|
Content in a meeting room is displayed in tools, which are windows that contain various types of media, including slides, video, whiteboards, shared applications, polls, and messages to meeting participants. A layout is a named collection of tool windows that are displayed together in the meeting room.
|
Layout navigation bar
|
Visible only to moderators, this toolbar allows moderators to switch between meeting room layouts, add a new layout, lock the location and size of tools in a layout, or switch to Preparing mode to navigate between meeting room layouts without affecting the views of other attendees.
By default, a new meeting room contains a number of prebuilt layouts, depending on the meeting template selected for the meeting (for example, the Collaboration template includes Share, Whiteboard, and Share Multiple default layouts). The tools in these layouts are selected and arranged to facilitate sharing of content, discussion of topics, or collaboration with colleagues.
|
Presenter Only area
|
Borders the stage and is visible only to moderators and presenters. Moderators can choose to show or hide this area. Moderators and presenters can use the Presenter Only area to prepare content to be shared with the audience or to view confidential content that is not shared with the audience.

|
Animation Support in Presentations
Presenters can upload and share PowerPoint files containing animations and effects created through Adobe Presenter. Uploaded PowerPoint files are converted to presentations, which provide presenters with additional controls for navigating the presentation.
Changing the Room Background
Meeting moderators can set a picture or animation as the background for the meeting room. The moderator can choose the background image from the list of attachments that have been loaded for the meeting (either from the Attachments page in the scheduling interface or from the Sharing tool). Users with the ability to create custom templates can set the room background while creating the template so that it will be loaded in all meetings scheduled with that template.
Connection Bandwidth Optimization
Meeting moderators can view connection speed information for all participants. If participants are using a variety of connection speeds, the moderator can select a meeting room bandwidth level to determine the speed (kilobits per second) at which data from the meeting is sent to participants. To ensure that all participants have a good connection, the meeting room bandwidth should be set to match the lowest speed that is in use by any participant during the meeting.
Moderators can determine the speed of a participant connection by mousing over the participant name in the Participant List tool. Moderators can also turn on network connection status indicators which display a group of bars, similar to the bars indicating signal strength on a cell phone, next to each name in the Participant List tool to indicate the connection status of the participant. When the connection falls below the current meeting room bandwidth, the number of bars in the icon decreases.
Inviting or Dialing Out to Add New Participants from the Meeting Console
Meeting moderators can use the Invite Participants option in the Meeting menu of the meeting room to generate a URL that can be sent to invite additional meeting participants. The Invite Participants dialog box also allows the moderator to compose an e-mail message containing the URL and other meeting information to send to new invitees.
Meeting moderators can use the Connect Selected User or Connect New User options in the Voice/Video Options menu of the Participant List to add a new phone participant to the meeting by dialing out to him or her.
Merging Participants
If a participant logs into a web meeting and then dials in to an audio conference, the two entries are automatically merged and only one name appears for the user. However, if a participant calls in to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace with an unrecognized phone number and then logs in to the meeting on the web, the participant may appear twice on the list, once as "Guest User (<caller ID>)," and once as the profile name or guest name entered while logging in to the web conference. If a moderator knows that a participant is listed twice, the moderator can use the Merge Users feature in the Participant List to combine the two listings into one.
Linux and Unix Meeting Console Support
In Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Release 6.0, Linux and Unix users can attend and participate in meetings by using the same Flash-based meeting console that Windows and Macintosh users use.
Participants on these systems with Moderator or Presenter permissions can share a whiteboard or meeting attachment, view shared files, and make annotations, but they cannot share files that reside on their systems with other participants.
Meeting Templates
Meeting templates allow meeting schedulers to specify meeting room layouts, add attachments, create polls, and set other meeting parameters that can be applied each time they create a meeting by using the template. The meeting template chosen by the scheduler also dictates the default permissions that meeting invitees are assigned as they are added to the meeting (although these permissions can be changed while scheduling the meeting or at any point during the meeting).
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace has three predefined templates to suit different meeting styles. The following predefined templates are available:
•
Collaboration—An open forum-style meeting where all participants have presenter permissions by default.
•
Presentation—A meeting where one or more participants present to an active audience of one or more participants.
•
Webinar—A lecture-style meeting where one participant is the moderator, there are one or more presenters, and the remainder of the participants are passive audience members. The audio for the audience members is muted by default in this type of meeting.
Users whose profiles allow them to host meetings with the full meeting room can choose any of these templates when scheduling a meeting or create and use additional custom templates. Users whose profiles are set for the participant list only can choose either the Collaborative template or the Webinar template when scheduling a meeting; in this case, the template affects only the audio permissions of participants.
Online Administrative Interface Enhancements
The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing online administrative interface has been enhanced in several ways. The enhancements are described in the following sections:
•
Reboot Server Link
•
Shared Storage Configuration
•
SSL/TLS Configuration
Reboot Server Link
The Reboot Server link on the main administration web page allows you to shut down and restart the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server machine from a web browser. When you click the link, you are asked to confirm the reboot.
Shared Storage Configuration
Storage space is required for both audio and web recordings and data attachments, referred to collectively as MeetingNotes. By default, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server stores all MeetingNotes for meetings held on the server on a local disk. The Shared Storage page in the online administrative interface allows you to change the storage configuration to copy MeetingNotes to an external backup location (such as a shared network drive on a dedicated storage server, a network-attached storage device, or a storage area network).
For a load balancing cluster of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing servers, the configuration steps you perform on the Shared Storage page replace the manual steps previously required during installation to configure storage space that is shared among cluster members.
SSL/TLS Configuration
The SSL/TLS page in the online administrative interface simplifies the process of setting up Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server. The page guides you through the process of generating certificate requests for each interface, adding the certificates to the server, and enabling SSL.
Load Balancing and Failover Behavior
The load balancing and failover behavior of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server clusters has changed in Release 6.0.
In Release 6.0, each Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server comprises two separate load balancing components, known as the origin server and edge server. Meetings are hosted on the origin server. Participants connect to the edge server when joining a meeting. These components interact to provide load balancing and failover capability as follows:
•
When a meeting starts, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing server assigns a primary and backup origin server to the meeting room based on current active meeting load.
•
As participants join the meeting, they are load balanced across the edge servers in the cluster based on the number of participants currently connected to each edge server at that time. The edge server internally makes a connection to the origin server that is hosting the meeting.
•
Each client is given the primary edge/origin and backup edge/origin information by the server when the meeting room is launched. No configuration is needed on the clients.
If a failure occurs on a server in the cluster, users will experience the following behavior:
•
The web server to which the participant is connected stops responding (for example, the computer loses power or the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing services are shut down).
•
Users who are connected to the edge server on that web server lose their connection to the meeting.
•
Each meeting console client that lost its connection automatically tries to reconnect to the edge server. If this attempt fails, the meeting console attempts to connect to the backup edge server by using the backup information that it received when initially connecting to the meeting.
Video Behavior in a Load Balancing Cluster
In a load balancing configuration you must install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Video Integration on each web server that users will use to schedule video meetings and then activate the Video Integration on only one web server in the cluster. In previous releases, when a user with video scheduling privileges scheduled a meeting, by default, the web-conferencing component was held on the web server that had the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Video Integration activated, whether or not video ports were scheduled, so that ad hoc video could be added to the meeting if needed.
In Release 6.0, meetings scheduled by users with video scheduling privileges are no longer constrained to being hosted on the web server that has the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Video Integration activated—any web server in the cluster can provide video capabilities, including ad hoc video, as long as video ports are available.
Installation and Upgrade Information

Using Bug Toolkit
Known problems (bugs) are graded according to severity level. These release notes contain descriptions of the following:
•
All severity level 1 or 2 bugs.
•
Significant severity level 3 bugs.
•
All customer-found bugs.
You can search for problems by using the Cisco Software Bug Toolkit.
Before You Begin
To access Bug Toolkit, you need the following items:
•
Internet connection
•
Web browser
•
Cisco.com user ID and password
Procedure
Step 1
To access the Bug Toolkit, go to http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs.
Step 2
Log in with your Cisco.com user ID and password.
Step 3
To look for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the "Search for Bug ID" field, then click Go.
For information about how to search for bugs, create saved searches, and create bug groups, click Help in the Bug Toolkit page.
Open Caveats
The caveats in Table 5 describe possible unexpected behavior in the latest Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing release. These caveats may also be open in previous releases. Bugs are listed in order of severity and then in alphanumeric order by bug identifier.
