There are two types of pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 installations:
•
Freestanding. See "Assembling A Freestanding Pedestal Stand-Mounted CTS-500-37" section for instructions to install a freestanding CTS-500-37 system.
•Attached to the wall. See "Assembling a Pedestal Stand-Mounted CTS-500-37 that Attaches to the Wall" section for instructions to install a CTS-500-37 system that attaches to the wall.
Note The pedestal stand kit includes the pedestal stand floor plates to assemble either type of installation.
This chapter provides you with the information you need to assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 and includes the following sections:

Warning Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment.
Warning Installation of the equipment must comply with local and national electrical codes.
Note The directions left and right refer to the assembly when you face the display.
Assembling A Freestanding Pedestal Stand-Mounted CTS-500-37
To assemble a freestanding pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37, complete the following steps.
See Table 2-1 for the list of parts that are required for this assembly procedure. The parts are keyed to numbers; use these numbers to refer to the parts in the illustrations.

|
To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37, complete the following steps.
Step 1 Locate carton 2 of the pedestal stand kit, part number CTS500-STRUC-PED, and remove the contents from the carton.
Step 2 Assemble the pedestal stand using the instructions that are provided in the pedestal stand kit.
Note Be sure to use the larger pedestal stand floor plate.
Step 3 Loosen the height adjustment knob, raise the stand to its maximum height, and tighten the knob.

Step 4 (Optional) open carton 1, locate the height label, and install the height label on the side of the pedestal stand. The height label is in the same clear plastic envelope as the printed documentation.
Use this label to perform first-time setup of a CTS-500-37 when the user is unavailable or when the CTS-500-37 will be used in a common area by more than one person.

Step 5 Remove the cable bundle from Carton 1 and attach the cable bundle to the pedestal stand using the provided tie-wraps. Arrange the bundle so that the DVI connection is on top.
Note Do not attach the microphone cable to the pedestal.
Make sure that there is approximately 30.5 centimeters (12 inches) of cable length from the highest attachment point.

Step 6 Remove the display screen from its packaging (carton 3, part no. CTS-500-DISP37-INT).
Step 7 Using at least two people, attach the display screen assembly to the top of the pedestal stand by sliding the buttons on the display screen assembly over and into the slots in the pedestal stand.

Step 8 Remove the top rear cover from the display.

Step 9 Connect the cables to the following connections on the top of the display:
•Connect the speaker connections to the spade terminal connections. The cables are labeled red for the right speaker and white for the left.
Note Because you are viewing the display from the rear, left and right are reversed.
•Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet connection for the camera.
•Connect the DVI cable to the DVI camera connection.

Step 10 Replace the display top rear cover.
Tip To make cover replacement easier, tie the wires together with a zip tie and make sure that the ferrite cores on the wires are outside of the cover.

Step 11 Connect the cables to the following connections on the underside of the display:
•If it is not already connected, connect the HD video cable to the HD video connection for the display.
•Connect the power cord to the power inlet. Use the power cord that does not have a 90 degree right angle at the power inlet; the part number is 37-0984-01.
Note Keep the power and signal cables separate; route the power cables on one side of the pedestal stand, route the signal cables on the other side of the stand.
•Connect the microphone. The microphone connection is on the lower rear of the display.
Note Make sure that the microphone cable has enough free length so that the display can swivel through its full range of movement without the microphone cable pulling out. If the microphone cable is too tight, double-check that you did not attach the microphone cable to the stand and/or that the cable is not binding anywhere.
•(Optional) Connect the Auxiliary HD Video connection to the Digital Media Player (DMP).

Step 12 Remove the codec (part no. CTS-CODEC-PRI-G2) from its packaging.
Step 13 Attach the codec to the floor mount assembly by completing the following steps:
a. Set the codec on the base plates and against the back panel of the pedestal stand.
b. Attach the codec to the base plates using the codec attachment plates, hex screws, and washers.
Note Attach the codec so that the power inlet and power switch are on the left when you face the front of the display.
Tip Use the provided Allen wrench to install the screws.

Step 14 Connect the cable bundle to the codec as follows:
•Connect the Ethernet cable from the display to the white camera Ethernet connection.
•Connect the microphone cable to the microphone connection.
•Connect the left speaker to the white speaker connection. This connection is also indicated by two dots.
•Connect the right speaker cable to the red speaker connection. This connection is also indicated by three dots.
•Connect the HD video cable to the HD video display connection.
Step 15 Attach the remaining cables to the codec as follows:
•Connect the power cord to the power inlet. Use the power cord that has a 90 degree right angle at the power inlet; the part number is 37-0983-01.
Caution Do not yet connect the cord to an active power source.
•Connect an Ethernet cable to the Cisco Unified IP Phone Ethernet connection indicated by a white phone icon on the CTS-500-37 codec. Connect the other side of this connection to the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975.
•Connect a network cable to the network connection on the codec. Connect the other side of this connection to an external network connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DVI connector from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle to the Presentation Source In connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DMP Audio or Presentation Audio connection to one of the following input sources:
–The audio connection from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle
–The audio connection from the DMP
Note You can configure the DMP audio to play when you are not in a TelePresence call. For more information, see the "Testing the LEDs and Light Fixture and Configuring the Digital Media Player Audio" section on page 5-21.
Figure 2-10 shows the required connections for the CTS-500-37 codec.

Step 16 Remove the light reflector panel from carton 5 and slide the light reflector panel into the display screen assembly.
Note If you encounter problems when you mount the panel, remove the light fixture by disconnecting the wiring connector on the left side of the display assembly and lifting the fixture straight up. See Figure 2-13 for an example of light fixture removal. Replace and reconnect the light fixture after you mount the light reflector panel.

Step 17 Attach the codec cover to the pedestal stand by inserting the table from the cover into the slots on the rear of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cover until the tabs are fully seated.

Step 18 Attach the cable cover to the back of the pedestal stand by inserting the tabs in the cable cover into the slots of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cable cover until the tabs are fully seated.
Note Route the Cisco Unified IP Phone, power and Ethernet network cables through the hole in the bottom of the cable cover. See Figure 2-16 for the correct cable routing.

Step 19 Make preliminary adjustments to the vertical height of the display.
•If the user is available, have the user sit where they will be using the CTS-500-37, loosen the height adjustment knob, and adjust the vertical height. Make sure that the user is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) away from the display.

•If the user height is unknown, loosen the height adjustment knob and use the following guidelines to make initial height adjustments to the display. Make sure that the user is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) away from the display.

Step 20 Peel off the protective plastic film from the front of the display.
Step 21 (Optional) attach the cable management holder to its attachment point by completing the steps in the "Installing the External Presentation Cable Holder" section.
Assembling a Pedestal Stand-Mounted CTS-500-37 that Attaches to the Wall
To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 that attaches to the wall, complete the following steps.
Caution Failure to properly attach the mount to the wall can result in personal injury or damage to equipment. It is the installer's responsibility to make sure that the structure to which this stand is attached can properly support the stand and all the components attached to it. Reinforce the structure as required before installing the mount and make sure that your installation complies with all local and regional building codes.
To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 that attaches to the wall, complete one of the following procedures, depending on whether your installation has metal or wooden studs:
•If your walls have metal studs, complete the steps in the "Mounting Method Using Metal Studs" section.
•If your walls have wooden studs, complete the steps in the "Mounting Method Using Wooden Studs" section.
See Table 2-2 for the list of parts that are required for this assembly procedure. The parts are keyed to numbers; use these numbers to refer to the parts in the illustrations.
Note Part numbers for the parts in the pedestal stand kit are the same as the parts numbers in the installation instructions that are provided in the kit.
Mounting Method Using Metal Studs
To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 that attaches to the wall and uses metal studs, complete the following steps.

To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37, complete the following steps.
Step 1 Locate carton 2 of the pedestal stand kit, part no. CTS500-STRUC-PED, and remove the contents from the carton.
Step 2 Assemble the pedestal stand using the instructions that are provided in the kit.
Be sure to use the smaller pedestal stand floor plate.
Step 3 Loosen the height adjustment knob, raise the stand to its maximum height, and tighten the knob.

Step 4 (Optional) Install the height label on the side of the pedestal stand. Measure from the top of the stand for the correct sticker placement.
Note Use this label to perform first-time setup of a CTS-500-37 when the user is unavailable or when the CTS-500-37 will be used in a common area by more than one person.

Step 5 Remove the cable bundle from Carton 1 and attach the cable bundle to the pedestal stand using the provided tie-wraps. Arrange the bundle so that the DVI connection is on top.
Note Do not attach the microphone cable to the pedestal.
Make sure that there is approximately 30.5 centimeters (12 inches) of cable length from the highest attachment point.

Step 6 Remove one of the stand bolts and attach the tether to the stand; then, reattach the stand bolt.

Step 7 Using a stud finder, find the center of the stud and place the stand so that either the right or left mounting points are located in the center of the stud.
Step 8 Using the wall mounting plate on the stand as a template, mark and drill five 1/2-inch (13 mm) holes in the wall. Four of the holes are for the pedestal stand mounting plate, the fifth hole is for the tether.

Step 9 Using the anchors that are provided in the stand accessory kit, move the plastic straps on the anchor until the metal part of the anchor is parallel to the straps, then push the metal part of the anchor through the wall.

Step 10 Turn the plastic straps on the anchor so that the metal part of the anchor is flush on the inner part of the stud.
Step 11 Slide the plastic cap on the anchor until the cap is flush with the outer part of the wall.

Step 12 Snap off the plastic straps that protrude from the wall until the entire assembly is flush with the wall. Push the straps side to side to snap them off.

Step 13 Repeat Step 9 through Step 12 for the all holes in the wall.
Step 14 Place the pedestal stand against the wall, then insert the screws and washers into the anchors through the mounting holes in the pedestal stand. Tighten the screws until they are flush with the pedestal stand, but do not overtighten.

Step 15 Remove the display screen from its packaging (carton 3, part no. CTS-500-DISP37-INT).
Step 16 Using at least two people, attach the display screen assembly to the top of the pedestal stand by sliding the buttons on the display screen assembly over and into the slots in the pedestal stand.

Step 18 Connect the cables to the following connections on the top of the display:

Step 23 Connect the cable bundle to the codec as follows:

•Connect an Ethernet cable to the Cisco Unified IP Phone Ethernet connection indicated by a white phone icon on the CTS-500-37 codec. Connect the other side of this connection to the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975.
•Connect a network cable to the network connection on the codec. Connect the other side of this connection to an external network connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DVI connector from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle to the Presentation Source In connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DMP Audio or Presentation Audio connection to one of the following input sources:
–The audio connection from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle
–The audio connection from the DMP
Note You can configure the DMP audio to play when you are not in a TelePresence call. For more information, see the "Testing the LEDs and Light Fixture and Configuring the Digital Media Player Audio" section on page 5-21.

Step 25 Remove the light reflector panel from carton 5 and slide the light reflector panel into the display screen assembly.
Note If you encounter problems when you mount the panel, remove the light fixture by disconnecting the wiring connector on the left side of the display assembly and lifting the fixture straight up. See Figure 2-37 for an example of light fixture removal. Replace and reconnect the light fixture after you mount the light reflector panel.

Step 26 Attach the codec cover to the pedestal stand by inserting the table from the cover into the slots on the rear of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cover until the tabs are fully seated.

Step 27 Attach the cable cover to the back of the pedestal stand by inserting the tabs in the cable cover into the slots of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cable cover until the tabs are fully seated.
Note Route the Cisco Unified IP Phone, power and Ethernet network cables through the hole in the bottom of the cable cover. See Figure 2-40 for the correct cable routing.

Step 28 Attach the tether to the anchor in the wall.
Note For clarity, the display, codec and cable cover have been removed from the following illustration.

Step 29 Make preliminary adjustments to the vertical height of the display.
•If the user is available, have the user sit where they will be using the CTS-500-37, loosen the height adjustment knob, and adjust the vertical height. Make sure that the user is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) away from the display.

Step 30 Peel off the protective plastic film from the front of the display.
Step 31 (Optional) attach the cable management holder to its attachment point by completing the steps in the "Installing the External Presentation Cable Holder" section.

To assemble a pedestal stand-mounted CTS-500-37 that attaches to the wall and uses wooden studs, complete the following steps.

Step 1 Locate carton 2 of the pedestal stand kit, part no. CTS500-STRUC-PED, and remove the contents from the carton.
Step 2 Assemble the pedestal stand using the instructions that are provided in the kit.
Be sure to use the smaller pedestal stand floor plate.
Step 3 Loosen the height adjustment knob, raise the stand to its maximum height, and tighten the knob.

Step 4 (Optional) Install the height label on the side of the pedestal stand. Measure from the top of the stand for the correct sticker placement.
Note Use this label to perform first-time setup of a CTS-500-37 when the user is unavailable or when the CTS-500-37 will be used in a common area by more than one person.

Step 5 Remove the cable bundle from Carton 1 and attach the cable bundle to the pedestal stand using the provided tie-wraps. Arrange the bundle so that the DVI connection is on top.
Note Do not attach the microphone cable to the pedestal.
Make sure that there is approximately 30.5 centimeters (12 inches) of cable length from the highest attachment point.

Step 6 Remove one of the stand bolts and attach the tether to the stand; then, reattach the stand bolt.

Step 7 Using the stud finder, find the center of the stud and place the stand so that either the right or left mounting points are located in the center of the stud.
Step 8 Using the stand as a template, mark and drill three holes as follows:
•Drill two 1/8-inch (3 mm) holes in center of the wooden stud. These holes support the wall mount plate.
•Drill one 1/2-inch (13 mm) hole in the wall This hole secures the tether to the wall.
Note You can use either the right or left set of mounting holes to attach the mount to the stud.

Step 9 Insert an anchor in the 1/2-inch hole that you drilled by completing the following steps:
a. Using the anchor that is provided in the stand accessory kit, move the plastic straps on the anchor until the metal part of the anchor is parallel to the straps, then push the metal part of the anchor through the 1/2-inch holes in the wall.

b. Turn the plastic straps on the anchor so that the metal part of the anchor is flush on the inner part of the stud.
c. Slide the plastic cap on the anchor until the cap is flush with the outer part of the wall.

d. Snap off the plastic straps that protrude from the wall until the entire assembly is flush with the wall. Push the straps side to side to snap them off.

Step 10 Place the stand against the wall, then attach the stand to the wall and stud using the lag screws.

Step 11 Place the tether over the 1/2-inch hole and installed anchor, then insert the screw through the hole in the tether and into the anchor.
Do not overtighten this screw.

Step 12 Remove the display screen from its packaging (carton 3, part no. CTS-500-DISP37-INT).
Step 13 Using at least two people, attach the display screen assembly to the top of the pedestal stand by sliding the buttons on the display screen assembly over and into the slots in the pedestal stand.

Step 14 Remove the display top rear cover from the display.

Step 15 Connect the cables to the following connections on the top of the display:
•Connect the speaker connections to the spade terminal connections. The cables are labeled red for the right speaker and white for the left.
Note Because you are viewing the display from the rear, left and right are reversed.
•Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet connection for the camera.
•Connect the DVI cable to the DVI camera connection.
Tip To make cover replacement easier, tie the wires together with a zip tie and make sure that the ferrite cores on the wires are outside of the cover.

Step 16 Replace the display top rear cover.
Note Make sure to leave the ferrite cores outside of the cover.

Step 17 Connect the cables to the following connections on the underside of the display:
•If it is not already connected, connect the HD video cable to the HD video connection for the display.
•Connect the power cord to the power inlet. Use the power cord that does not have a 90 degree right angle at the power inlet; the part number is 37-0984-01.
Note Keep the power and signal cables separate; route the power cables on one side of the pedestal stand, route the signal cables on the other side of the stand.
•Connect the microphone. The microphone connection is on the lower rear of the display.
Note Make sure that the microphone cable has enough free length so that the display can swivel through its full range of movement without the microphone cable pulling out. If the microphone cable is too tight, double-check that you did not attach the microphone cable to the stand and/or that the cable is not binding anywhere.
•(Optional) Connect the Auxiliary HD Video connection to the Digital Media Player (DMP).

Step 18 Remove the codec (part no. CTS-CODEC-PRI-G2) from its packaging.
Step 19 Attach the codec to the floor mount assembly by completing the following steps:
a. Set the codec on the base plates and against the back panel of the pedestal stand.
b. Attach the codec to the base plates using the codec attachment plates, hex screws, and washers.
Note Attach the codec so that the power inlet and power switch are on the left when you face the front of the display.
Tip Use the provided Allen wrench to install the screws.

Step 20 Connect the cable bundle to the codec as follows:
•Connect the Ethernet cable from the display to the white camera Ethernet connection.
•Connect the microphone cable to the microphone connection.
•Connect the left speaker to the white speaker connection. This connection is also indicated by two dots.
•Connect the right speaker cable to the red speaker connection. This connection is also indicated by three dots.
•Connect the HD video cable to the HD video display connection.
Step 21 Attach the remaining cables to the codec as follows:
•Connect the power cord to the power inlet. Use the power cord that has a 90 degree right angle at the power inlet; the part number is 37-0983-01.
Caution Do not yet connect the cord to an active power source.
•Connect an Ethernet cable to the Cisco Unified IP Phone Ethernet connection indicated by a white phone icon on the CTS-500-37 codec. Connect the other side of this connection to the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975.
•Connect a network cable to the network connection on the codec. Connect the other side of this connection to an external network connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DVI connector from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle to the Presentation Source In connection.
•(Optional) Connect the DMP Audio or Presentation Audio connection to one of the following input sources:
–The audio connection from the DVI-to-VGA cable bundle
–The audio connection from the DMP
Note You can configure the DMP audio to play when you are not in a TelePresence call. For more information, see the "Testing the LEDs and Light Fixture and Configuring the Digital Media Player Audio" section on page 5-21.
Figure 2-10 shows the required connections for the CTS-500-37 codec.

Step 22 Remove the light reflector panel from carton 5 and slide the light reflector panel into the display screen assembly.
Note If you encounter problems when you mount the panel, remove the light fixture by disconnecting the wiring connector on the left side of the display assembly and lifting the fixture straight up. See Figure 2-63 for an example of light fixture removal. Replace and reconnect the light fixture after you mount the light reflector panel.

Step 23 Attach the codec cover to the pedestal stand by inserting the table from the cover into the slots on the rear of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cover until the tabs are fully seated.

Step 24 Attach the cable cover to the back of the pedestal stand by inserting the tabs in the cable cover into the slots of the pedestal stand. Push down on the cable cover until the tabs are fully seated.
Note Route the Cisco Unified IP Phone, power and Ethernet network cables through the hole in the bottom of the cable cover. See Figure 2-66 for the correct cable routing.

Step 25 Attach the tether to the anchor in the wall.
Note For clarity, the display, codec and cable cover have been removed from the following illustration.

Step 26 Make preliminary adjustments to the vertical height of the display.
•If the user is available, have the user sit where they will be using the CTS-500-37, loosen the height adjustment knob, and adjust the vertical height. Make sure that the user is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) away from the display.

•If the user height is unknown, loosen the height adjustment knob and use the following guidelines to make initial height adjustments to the display. Make sure that the user is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) away from the display.

Step 27 Peel off the protective plastic film from the front of the display.
Step 28 (Optional) attach the cable management holder to its attachment point by completing the steps in the "Installing the External Presentation Cable Holder" section.
Installing the External Presentation Cable Holder
The CTS-500-37 includes a DVI-to-VGA cable that allows you to connect your system to an external presentation source. A cable holder is included with the CTS-500-37 system to assist in the management and routing of this cable. You route the cable from the codec to the location of the presentation source (for example, a laptop computer) and install the cable holder at that location.
See Table 2-4 for the list of parts that are required for this assembly procedure. The parts are keyed to numbers; use these numbers to refer to the parts in the illustrations.

To install the cable holder, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Open carton 9, part number CTS-CABL-HLDR-SYST, and remove the components from their packaging.
Step 2 Determine a suitable location for the cable holder (for example, on the edge of a desk near a laptop computer).
Step 3 Route the cable through the front cover.
Step 4 Attach the rear cover to the location you determined in Step 2.
Step 5 Attach the rear cover to the cable holder assembly.
Step 6 (Optional) Use the Velcro to join the audio jack and the VGA cable together.
