The Cisco TelePresence System 1300 (CTS 1300) is designed to be used in a multipurpose room (for example, a conference room). However, to ensure that you have the best conferencing experience, Cisco recommends that you optimize your room by using the guidelines and recommendations in this chapter.

General Room Requirements and Recommendations
The following are required elements for a CTS 1300 room:
•
You must use an enclosed space.
•
You must have a room with the minimum dimensions that are specified in the "Supported Table Types and Minimum Room Dimensions" section on page 2-2.
•
The room must meet minimum heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) requirements that are provided in the "Power Requirements" section on page 2-12.
•
The room must be supplied with electrical power as specified in the "Power Requirements" section on page 2-12.
•
The power and Ethernet outlets must not be positioned directly behind the CTS 1300 unit.
•
If you install two CTS 1300 systems in rooms that share a wall, you must not mount the systems on the same wall; mount the two CTS 1300 systems on separate walls.
•
The walls in the room must meet the structural guidelines as specified in the "Important Warnings and Cautions" section on page 3-1 in Chapter 3, "Assembling and Mounting a Cisco TelePresence System 1300."
The following recommendations or guidelines ensures that you have the best possible conferencing experience:
•
A white room is acceptable but not recommended for the best experience. Neutral colors work best for the floors and walls.
You can use color, décor, and signage in the room to communicate your brand and corporate identity.
Cisco recommends that you do not use colors with high contrast.
For more color information, see the "Room Color Recommendations" section on page 2-11.
•
Normal office lighting is usually sufficient for a good conferencing experience. However, Cisco recommends that you perform the following actions for the best experience:
–
Use indirect florescent lighting and avoid any direct lighting.
–
If your room has windows, install shades to reduce glare, especially for any windows that are directly behind the participants.
For more information about lighting, see the "Lighting Recommendations" section on page 2-11.
•
The CTS 1300 was designed to well in an office with normal sound levels. Large rooms, or rooms with high ceilings, can cause echo and reverberation issues. For more information about acoustics, see the "Acoustic Recommendations" section on page 2-12.
Supported Table Types and Minimum Room Dimensions
Figure 2-1 through Figure 2-8 show the types of tables that the CTS 1300 supports and the minimum room size for each type of table. To see the recommended table finishes, see the "Recommended Table Finishes" section on page 2-10.
Cisco recommends that you use a table where at least four people sit in a straight line facing the camera. Figure 2-1 through Figure 2-6 illustrate tables that provide the best conferencing experience.
Some of these figures show the microphone placement for more than three microphones. These additional microphones are used for audio conferences only. For information about configuring these additional microphones, see the "Configuring Additional Microphones for Audio-Only Conferences" section on page 4-61.

•

Minimum distance between the edge of the wall where you install the CTS 1300 and the table is 52 inches (132 cm); minimum distance between the edge of the CTS 1300 screen and the table is 44 inches (112 cm)
•

Figure 2-2 shows the table with three additional microphones that can be used with an audio-only conference.
Note
For some custom installation configurations that are not shown in these figures, you can configure the additional microphones to be used during a video conference, as well as an audio conference. For more information, see the "Configuring Additional Microphones for Audio-Only Conferences" section on page 4-61.

This table is approximately 10 feet (3 meters) wide
•
Allows four participants to sit in a straight line facing the camera, and two participants to sit on the corner (one on each side)
•
Minimum room size is 18 x 13 feet (5.5 meters x 4 meters)
•
Minimum distance between the edge of the wall where you install the CTS 1300 and the table is 52 inches (132 cm); minimum distance between the edge of the CTS 1300 screen and the table is 44 inches (112 cm)
•

This table has a 10 foot (3 meter) wide straight section with 30-inch (76 cm) radius end caps, for a total of 15 feet (4.6 meters) wide

•

This table has a five foot (1.5 meter) wide straight section with 26 inch (66 cm) radius end caps, for a total of approximately 9.33 feet (2.8 meters) wide

Minimum room size is 18 x 13 feet (5.5 meters x 4 meters)
•

Recommended Table Height
For all table types, the table must be 28 to 32 inches (71 to 82cm) high. 30 inches (76 cm) is the optimal table height.
Recommended Table Finishes
Cisco recommends that the table in your CTS 1300 room have the following characteristics:
•
The table tops should have a low-gloss finish (non-reflective surface)
•
If you use wood a table, the wood should be a neutral, light color
•
If you use a laminate or plastic table, the table top should be a neutral, light color (for example, off-white or light gray)
Cisco does not recommend using the following types of table tops:
•
A table that uses a very dark or heavily saturated color (for example, wood that is reddish in color, or uses a dark wood stain)
•
A table with a glass top
•
Any table top that has a reflective surface
Figure 2-9 shows examples of unacceptable table colors.

Lighting Recommendations
The cameras that are used in the CTS 1300 are designed to work well using normal office lighting. However, Cisco recommends that you use well dispersed, ambient light throughout the room.
The ideal lighting environment is to use indirect fluorescent lighting that uses bulbs with a rating of 4,100 Kelvins (4100k). You can supply the lighting either through recessed fixtures or pendant fixtures. Pendant lighting is best if your room is more than 9 feet (2.7 meters) high. Cisco does not recommend direct lighting.
For best results, one set of lighting should be in front of conference participants, and one set should be behind the participants.
The lighting in the room should be well controlled. You should block natural sunlight or other light that could enter through glass or thin blinds.
Cisco strongly recommends that your fluorescent lighting use electronic ballasts.
It is important to consider the direction of the lighting in your room. For conferencing purposes, lighting can come from three directions:
•
Key Light—This is the primary source of lighting and typically the strongest source of lighting. Key light is built-in to the CTS 1300 light reflector.
•
Fill light—This light is created primarily from the overhead lights in the room, and secondarily from the CTS 1300 light reflector. Fill light can reduce or eliminate shadowing on the conference participants that is created by the key light.
•
Back light—This optional light is projected behind the conference participants. Back light is generally indirect and creates separation between the participants and the room background.
If measuring light in the room, the light range should be between 250 and 800 lux.

Acoustic Recommendations
The CTS 1300 microphones and speakers are designed to be used in rooms that have typical office noise levels.
Rooms with excessive noise (greater than 55 decibels (dBA) might not provide the best conference experience.
Large rooms, high ceilings, or rooms that have a large amount of glass may experience reverberation. If possible, reduce reverberation to a level that is below 700 milliseconds across the voice spectrum (between 300 and 3000 Hertz).
Power Requirements
The Cisco TelePresence System 1300 requires one 20amp circuit @100V 120V (US electrical code requires maximum 16amp on a 20amp circuit) or one 10amp circuit @ 240V. Two receptacles must be provided for these circuits. The receptacles should be located on the wall near the intended location of the endpoint but not directly behind the endpoint.
Note
Peripherals such as document cameras or alternate displays will require additional circuits and receptacles. Placement will depend on the type and location of the peripheral device.

HVAC Considerations
Planning the cooling for a CTS 1300 TelePresence room is important to insure the room remains comfortable for participants and the equipment is kept safe. As outlined in the overview section of this document, HVAC considerations should be given from the initial phase of choosing a room. The detail in the table below outlines the specific BTU output of a CTS 1300 when deployed as recommend and under typical operating conditions. Typical assumes normal usage conditions such that the system is not subject to 100 percent utilization rates and deployment following Cisco recommendations. i.e. room located on interior, proper air circulation, walls painted with neutral colors, temperature expected 72-76 degrees F. Within these guidelines and typical usage, diversity of 25 percent can be equated which lowers cooling requirements and increases overall efficiency. HVAC considerations should be given from the initial phase of choosing a room. Installing new cooling (or heating) systems can be time-consuming.

Note
Conditions not consistent with these recommendations or typical usage may require additional cooling. Consult with an HVAC engineer to define building envelope and unique requirements. Additional equipment such as data displays, document cameras, etc. will require additional cooling.

Auto Collaboration Data Display
The Cisco TelePresence CTS 1300 ships with one unique output port that supports only one display of data shared from other CTS endpoints. This port supports standard HDMI connectors and cables. If you wish to connect more than one display for sharing data or presentations, it is necessary to purchase an HDMI splitter and connect it to the Auxiliary control unit port.
Note
The high frame rate codec does not support 30 frames/sec in presentation-in-picture (PIP) mode. An external display is recommended.
The supported output resolution is 1024x768 at 50/60 Hertz and is supported by all Cisco LCD displays. Third-party displays which support these specifications may not be compatible. The HDMI to DVI cable for the data display has to be purchased by the customer.
