Installing the Cisco VPN 5000 Client
This chapter describes how to install the Cisco VPN 5000 Client software on your computer.
You can obtain the install file by downloading it from the Cisco Systems website or from your network administrator. The VPN client install file is located in the IntraPort Client folder.
Note
Before you install a new version of the VPN client for Windows, you must first uninstall any earlier versions of the VPN client. Refer to the "Uninstalling the VPN Client for Windows" section for instructions.

Installing the VPN Client for Windows 95/98/ME
This section describes the installation process for the VPN client for Windows 95/98/ME.
System Requirements
The VPN client for Windows 95/98/ME runs on any computer with a Pentium 90 or faster processor.
Installing the Software
To install the VPN client for Windows 95/98/ME
Step 1
Double-click the vpn-5000-win-95-98-ME-x.xx-3des.exe file, where x.xx is the version number.
Step 2
Follow the instructions in the window.
The setup program transfers all necessary files to the destination volume of your choice.
Installing the VPN Client for Windows NT
This section describes the installation process for the VPN client for Windows NT.
System Requirements
The VPN client for Windows NT requires Windows NT Version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later installed, and a Pentium 90 or faster processor.
Installing the Software
To install the VPN client for Windows NT
Step 1
Double-click the vpn-5000-win-nt-x.xx-3des.exe file, where x.xx is the version number.
The setup program transfers all necessary files to the destination volume of your choice and launches a program that automatically installs the appropriate network driver.
Step 2
Wait until you are prompted before you restart your computer.
If the network driver installation program is unsuccessful, you can manually install it using the instructions in the "Manually Installing the Network Driver for Windows NT" section.
Installing the VPN Client for Windows 2000
This section describes the installation process for the VPN client for Windows 2000.
System Requirements
The VPN client for Windows 2000 requires that you have Windows 2000 installed, and a Pentium 133 or faster processor.
Installing the Software
To install the VPN client for Windows 2000
Step 1
Double-click the vpn-5000-win-2000-x.xx-3des.exe file, where x.xx is the version number.
The setup program transfers all necessary files to the destination volume of your choice and launches a program that automatically installs the appropriate network driver.
Step 2

Installing the VPN Client for Mac OS
This section describes the installation process for the VPN client for Mac OS.
System Requirements
The VPN client for Mac OS runs on any Power Macintosh or compatible computer with Mac OS Version 7.6 to 9.x, and Open Transport Version 1.1.1 or later.
Have available an application that can translate a BinHex (.hqx) archive, such as StuffIt. Your web browser might perform the translation automatically for you.
Installing the Software
To install the VPN client for Mac OS
Step 1
From the IntraPort Client folder, translate the vpn-5000-mac-x.xx.3des.sea.hqx file from binhex using an application such as BinHex or StuffIt.
Step 2
If your binhex application did not expand the vpn-5000-mac-x.xx.3des.sea file, double-click it to uncompress the installer.
Step 3
Double-click the VPN 5000 Client Install file and follow the instructions to install the VPN client.
Step 4
Click Restart.
After your computer completes the restart process, you can run the VPN client program.
