Hardware Requirements for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging

This section describes the hardware components that are required to support the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging system. These include components in the Cisco ICS 7750 and the workstation PC.

SPE Running System Manager

SPE Used for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging

Administrator Workstation

SPE Running System Manager

The SPE running System Manager contains the Cisco ICS 7750 system software and Cisco CallManager. This SPE must meet the following requirements to support Cisco Unity Voice Messaging:

HardwareUse an SPE 310 (700-MHz Pentium III processor).

SPE softwareThese software versions are required:

Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 2 and Hot Fixes.

Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 with Service Pack 2. This is the system database server.

Cisco ICS System Manager, Release 2.3.0 or later. This is the interface for operating, administering, and managing the Cisco ICS 7750.

Cisco CallManager 3.1 or later. This is the call-processing application.

Note Cisco CallManager can be installed either on the SPE running System Manager or on another SPE.

SPE Used for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging

The following items are required for installing Cisco Unity Voice Messaging on the SPE:

HardwareSPE 310 (700-MHz Pentium III processor).

SPE SoftwareThe SPE, which is ordered as a spare, has the following software preloaded:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 2 and Hot Fixes.

ICS System Manager Core Software Release 2.3.0 or later.

Administrator Workstation

The administrator workstation is used to administer Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.

Workstations require the following hardware and software components to support the Cisco Unity Administrator application:

Processor: Pentium II 233 MHz minimum or faster.

Memory: 64 MB of RAM minimum; 128 MB are recommended. For Windows 2000 Professional, 128 MB are required.

Operating System: Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP.

Internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 2 or Internet Explorer 6.0.

Software Requirements for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging

This following software is required to support the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging system:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server—This is the only operating system that is supported for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging on the Cisco ICS 7750. Service Pack 2 and the latest Hot Fixes are also required.

Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ)This technology allows applications to send messages to queues and to read messages from queues. MSMQ provides message delivery, efficient routing, security, and queuing when systems are temporarily off line.

Microsoft Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP) ServiceThe NNTP Service is part of the Internet Information Services (IIS) components in Windows 2000. It takes advantage of standard Windows 2000 administration tools for performance monitoring and event reporting. When you install NNTP Service, the setup program installs a set of performance monitor counters. All NNTP Service status and error messages are written to event logs for viewing in Event Viewer. NNTP Service also includes support for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Service—The SMTP Service is also part of the IIS components in Windows 2000. It provides a standard for sending mail across the internet. SMTP mail addresses use a username and domain name in the form of name@domain.

Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) 2000This new database technology provides local data storage that is compatible with Microsoft SQL 2000. Because MSDE is based on the same data engine as SQL Server, most Microsoft Access projects can run unchanged on either version. MSDE is designed and optimized for use on smaller computer systems. It supports up to 25 voice ports.

Microsoft SQL Enterprise ManagerThis is the primary administrative tool for MSDE. Enterprise Manager provides a Microsoft Management Console (MMC)-compliant user interface for configuring and troubleshooting the MSDE database.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0It is recommended that you use these versions of Internet Explorer and, for Version 5.5 only, apply the Service Pack 2 to update the latest security fixes. Other versions of Internet Explorer have not been fully tested with Cisco Unity Voice Messaging Release 3.1(5).

Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server (Standard Edition)This application is designed specifically for Windows 2000 Server. It is the only version supported for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.

VERITAS Backup Exec 8.6Backup Exec 8.6 supports backups that are done over the network. This is the required backup procedure for the Cisco ICS 7750.

Summary of Installation Tasks

Installation of Cisco Unity Voice Messaging requires integration of several software components. These components are installed on the same SPE in the Cisco ICS 7750. You must install or configure these components in sequence; otherwise, the installation will fail. Table 2-1 lists the major installation tasks in the correct sequence and directs you to detailed instructions for completing the tasks.

Note When you install Cisco Unity Voice Messaging on the Cisco ICS 7750, you are installing a Cisco Unity component system. Procedures for installing a Cisco Unity component system are provided in the
Cisco Unity Installation Guide.

Note Refer to the Release Notes for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging Release 3.1(5) for the Cisco ICS 7750 for the latest installation and caveat information.
