Installing Symantec pcAnywhere

Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) uses Symantec pcAnywhere 10.0 to assist with troubleshooting problems. This application is required for supporting the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging system.

Note Microsoft Windows Terminal Services is not a supported third-party software for remote access to Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.

Install pcAnywhere on the SPE running Cisco Unity Voice Messaging. This software will be used for troubleshooting voice messaging problems.

Follow these steps to install pcAnywhere on the SPE:

Step 1 Insert the Remote Maintenance CD in the CD-ROM drive connected to the SPE.

Step 2 If a menu window does not appear, choose Start > Run, and double-click the setup.exe program.

Step 3 In the menu window, click Install pcAnywhere 10.0.

Step 4 Click Host Only.

Step 5 In the Welcome screen, click Next.

Step 6 In the License Agreement screen, click the radio button beside I accept the terms in the license agreement.

Step 7 In the Customer Information screen, enter the appropriate User Name and Organization. Click Next.

Step 8 In the Setup Type screen, choose the radio button beside Typical. Click Next.

Step 9 In the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.

Step 10 In the Installing Symantec pcAnywhere screen, monitor the progress of the installation. Click Next to proceed through the rest of the screens to see support information and to register as a customer.

Step 11 When the installation is complete, click Finish.

Step 12 Click Yes to restart the SPE now.

Configuring pcAnywhere

After the installation is completed, a service is set up that allows a remote host to connect to the SPE. If you must restart the SPE, the remote connection service automatically restarts.

Follow these steps to add properties for a new host:

Step 1 In the Log On to Windows dialog box, log in as the domain administrator.

Step 2 Choose Start > Programs > Symantec pcAnywhere.

Step 3 In the pcAnywhere Manager window, double-click the Add Host icon.

Step 4 In the pcAnywhere Host Properties New Host dialog box, click the Connection Info tab.

Step 5 Check the TCP/IP check box to set up an Internet connection.

Step 6 Click the Settings tab, and check the Launch with Windows check box.

Step 7 Click the Callers tab, and click the drop-down arrow for Authentication Type. Choose pcAnywhere.

Step 8 In the Callers tab page, under Caller List, locate the New Item icon. It is the first icon on the left in the toolbar with the tool tip identifying it, as shown in Figure 5-1.

Figure 5-1 Add a New Item by Using the Icon on the Toolbar

Step 9 Click the New Item icon on the toolbar to open the pcAnywhere Caller Properties: New Caller dialog box at the Identification tab page.

Step 10 In the Login Name field, enter a name, such as Cisco TAC, to identify the caller profile.

Step 11 Enter and confirm a password for caller access. Then click OK.

Step 12 In the pcAnywhere Host Properties: New Host dialog box, make sure that the new login name has been added. Click OK.

Step 13 In the pcAnywhere Manager window, rename the New Host icon so that it is easy to identify; for example, you could name it Unity VM.

Step 14 To start the pcAnywhere host running on the SPE, double-click the new host icon (Unity VM). You will see a message that states, "The pcAnywhere host is now waiting for connections."

Step 15 Click OK.

Step 16 To stop the pcAnywhere host, right-click the pcAnywhere icon on the status bar. Choose Cancel Host.

Note To use Internet access with pcAnywhere, the network administrator must ensure that the path between the remote user and the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging server is accessible through the firewall. The pcAnywhere software uses sockets TCP 5631 and 5632 for its communications.

Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader

The Cisco Unity documentation is available on the Documentation and Supplemental Files CD in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). To view the PDF files, you need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available on the documentation CD.

Follow the installation instructions in the Adobe Acrobat Readme file.

Installing Trend Micro ScanMail

This application is used to scan Microsoft Exchange mailboxes for computer viruses. Customers must purchase their own copies of this software. Installation of this software is optional.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange.

Note that scanning individual mailboxes can slow down the performance of Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.

Caution Do not configure Micro ScanMail to block *.wav file attachments. If these file attachments are blocked, voice messages will be stripped of their recordings.

Installing VERITAS Backup Exec

Backup Exec is the recommended application for backing up voice messages stored on the SPE for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging. Customers must purchase their own copies of the software. Installation of this software is optional.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install VERITAS Backup Exec.

Installing McAfee NetShield

The McAfee NetShield software is the only virus protection software for servers that is currently supported on the Cisco Integrated Communications System 7750 (ICS 7750). Even though installing a virus protection software is optional, it is recommended that you install NetShield on the SPE running Cisco Unity.

For information about installing NetShield on the Cisco ICS 7750, refer to Installing and Configuring McAfee NetShield on the Cisco ICS 7750.

Caution Do not configure virus-scanning utilities to block .wav attachments. If .wav attachment files are blocked, voice messages will be stripped of their recordings.

Note Scanning of individual Microsoft Exchange mailboxes for viruses can affect the performance of Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.

Changing Folder Options in Windows Explorer

For purposes of troubleshooting, ensure that all system folders and files are visible in Windows Explorer. To change the folder options in Windows Explorer, refer to the "Changing Windows Explorer Settings (Component System Only)" section in the "Installing a Cisco Unity System" chapter of the Cisco Unity Installation Guide.

Creating Organizational Units in Microsoft Exchange 2000

For more information about the Microsoft Exchange 2000 organizational units (OUs), refer to the "Creating Organizational Units and a Mailbox Store (Exchange 2000 Only)" section in Chapter 2, "Installing a Cisco Unity System," of the Cisco Unity Installation Guide.
