Installing the Rear Cover on the
Cisco ONS 15310-MA

This document explains how to install the Cisco ONS 15310-MA rear cover. It also contains a description of the rear cover, installation equipment and procedures, and a list of specifications. As appropriate, use this document in conjunction with the Cisco ONS 15310-CL and Cisco ONS 15310-MA Procedure Guide, the Cisco ONS 15310-CL and Cisco ONS 15310-MA Reference Manual, and the Cisco ONS 15310-CL and Cisco ONS 15310-MA Troubleshooting Guide when working with the rear cover.

Rear Cover Description

The plastic rear cover allows you to protect the DS-1 connections and all the other connectors installed on the back plane of the ONS 15310-MA chassis.

Note You must install the rear cover only after connecting all the cables on the back plane.

Note Depending on the field requirements, the rear cover can be installed with two different offsets from the back plane.

Rear Cover Specifications

•Environmental

–Operating temperature: -40 to + 65 degrees Celsius (-40 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit)

–Operating humidity: 5 to 95%, noncondensing

Caution Do not expose the rear cover to direct sunlight.

•Dimensions

–10.59 in. x 10.44 in. x 0.5 in. (26.9 cm x 26.52 cm x 1.27 cm)

–Weight: Approximately 0.67 lb (300 g)

Install the Rear Cover on the ONS 15310-MA

The following parts are required to install the rear cover on the ONS 15310-MA:

•#2 Phillips screwdriver

•1/4-inch nut driver

•Six 1/4-inch hexagonal standoffs, 6-32x1.75 or 6-32x3.25

•Six panhead screws 6-32x0.31

•One plastic rear cover

Step 1 Unscrew the three panhead screws from each DS-1 unit, located on the A side and B side of the
back plane (Figure 1).

Step 2 Use the 1/4-inch nut driver to install the six hexagonal standoffs into the mounting holes that previously held the six panhead screws.

Note You can place the rear cover with either of two offsets from the back plane. Assemble the 6.32x1.75 or the 6.32x3.25 hexagonal standoffs for using either offset option.
The 6.32x3.25 standoffs should be used when the DS-1 cable direction exchangers (15310-MA-DS1-PLUG=) are assembled on one of the DS-1 receptacle connectors of the Backplane Interface Connector (BIC) unit.

Step 3 Align the holes on the rear cover with the hexagonal standoffs (Figure 2 and Figure 3).

Step 4 Install and tighten the six panhead screws that you removed in Step 1 into the holes on the hexagonal standoffs (Figure 2 and Figure 3).

Note You can also preinstall the panhead screws on the hexagonal standoffs, place the rear cover on the standoffs, and finally tighten the panhead screws. The rear cover has oval cut-outs to allow this operation.
