Dell PowerEdge 1400SC server. For details about the server, refer to the Cisco Unity Supported Platforms List on Cisco.com at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/unco/un/prodlit/ucutp_st.htm.

Caution Cisco TAC does not provide any assistance for installing, customizing, or troubleshooting the Bridge on an unsupported platform.

Brooktrout Technology TR114+P4L PCI analog voice-fax card(s). For additional information, see the "Supported Voice-Fax Card" section.

A modem so that Cisco TAC can, if necessary, access the Bridge server remotely by using Microsoft Windows Terminal Services or Symantec pcAnywhere.

Software Requirements

The following required software is included with a baseline Bridge but must be purchased from another vendor for a component Bridge:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, which is supported in English only.

The following required software is included with baseline and component Bridges:

Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Cumulative Hot Fix Q301625, which includes patches for both the Code Red and Nimda viruses.

Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.5. (Internet Explorer 6.0 is also supported but must be acquired separately for baseline and component Bridges.)

Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 (the service pack is automatically installed when you install Internet Explorer 5.5 from the Cisco Unity Bridge compact disc set).

Windows Terminal Services (optionally, you may use pcAnywhere).

Cisco Unity Bridge.

The following required software is not included with either baseline or component Bridges:

Octel Analog Networking (Octelnet).

PART 1: Cisco Unity Bridge 2.0 System Requirements

Supported Voice-Fax Card

Only the following voice-fax card has been qualified for use on the Cisco Unity Bridge server:

Brooktrout Technology TR114+P4L PCI analog voice-fax card (4-port analog card). Approved for use in the United States and Canada. The line cord that ships with the card has an RJ-45 connector on one end and four single-pair RJ-11 connectors on the other end.

Supported Voice Messaging Systems

Octel Analog Networking is required for use with the Cisco Unity Bridge and Cisco Unity version 3.1(3) and later. Octel Analog Networking allows Cisco Unity—together with the Cisco Unity Bridge—to exchange voice messages with other voice messaging systems that support Octel Analog Networking.

The following voice messaging systems are supported for use with the Cisco Unity Bridge and Cisco Unity 3.1(3) and later:

Avaya Octel 100

Avaya Octel 200

Avaya Octel 300

Avaya Octel 250

Avaya Octel 350

Avaya Unified Messenger

Note that Octel Digital Networking is not supported.

Supported Cisco Gateways

The Cisco Unity Bridge is designed to use analog connectivity to communicate with Octel nodes that use Octel analog networking, which is a DTMF-based protocol. The Bridge server is a separate standalone server. The Bridge analog ports have no relation to the voice ports on the Cisco Unity system.

The only requirement for the Bridge ports is that they be provided analog connectivity to the PSTN. Whenever possible, we recommend that you use standard analog lines from a PBX or FX analog lines from a central office for connecting to the Bridge ports.

In a pure Cisco CallManager environment, because the Bridge supports only analog connectivity and Cisco CallManager supports only IP connectivity, there are two options for using the Bridge:

Preferably, use FX analog lines from a central office for connecting the Bridge ports to the PSTN.

To use a Cisco gateway between the Bridge and Cisco CallManager instead of analog lines, the gateway must be either the WS-X6624 (Cisco Catalyst 65XX) or from the 26XX or 36XX family of Cisco IOS gateways. The Cisco IOS gateway must be 12.2(8) code or later in h.323 mode. Additionally, in Cisco CallManager, you must change the H225DTMFDuration service parameter from 300 to 80.

Other gateways are being tested but are not supported at this time.

Unsupported Configurations

The following configurations are not supported on the Cisco Unity Bridge server:

Any application or service other than those listed in the "Software Requirements" section, the "Supported Optional Microsoft Service Packs" section, and the "Supported Virus-Scanning Software" section.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server or DataCenter Server.

Software-based RAID.

Supported Optional Microsoft Service Packs

Microsoft frequently provides updates for Windows 2000, Internet Explorer, and IIS. The updates (called by a variety of names, including security updates, critical updates, patches, and hot fixes) are limited to changes that fix specific problems. They do not include general defect fixes or new functionality. Cisco TAC provides support for a Cisco Unity Bridge server on which these updates have been installed.

Microsoft also occasionally releases service packs, which contain fixes generated since the general product release, including most fixes that were released as updates. Because the service pack scope is broad, each service pack must be thoroughly tested to ensure that changes do not adversely affect the Bridge. Cisco TAC does not support new service packs until they have been qualified for use with the Bridge.

Do not install a service pack that has not been qualified, or Cisco TAC will not help you resolve problems until you uninstall it.

Supported Virus-Scanning Software

Only the following virus-scanning software has been qualified for use on the Cisco Unity Bridge server:

McAfee NetShield for Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000, version 4.5 and later.

Unsupported Third-Party Software

Third-party software that has not been qualified for use with the Cisco Unity Bridge is not supported on the Bridge server. Cisco TAC will ask that it be removed during troubleshooting.

The following third-party software is not supported on the Cisco Unity Bridge server:

Backup-and-restore software. (Refer to the "Backing Up and Restoring the Bridge" section in the "Bridge Networking" chapter of Networking in Cisco Unity, which is available on Cisco.com at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/unity31/net/index.htm.)

Cisco IDS Host.

Fax server software.
