This chapter describes how to install the Cisco Nexus 1010 using the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) software and serial over LAN access.
This chapter includes the following sections:
Note If you do not want to configure CIMC, see the “Installing a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Without CIMC” section.
Note Before you install, operate, or service the system, see the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information for the Cisco Nexus 1000 Series document for important safety information.
Warning IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This warning symbol means danger. You are in a situation that could cause bodily injury. Before you work on any equipment, be aware of the hazards involved with electrical circuitry and be familiar with standard practices for preventing accidents. Use the statement number provided at the end of each warning to locate its translation in the translated safety warnings that accompanied this device.
Statement 1071
Warning Only trained and qualified personnel must be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment. Statement 1030
Use the following procedures to install the Cisco Nexus 1010 using CIMC software for network access.
Step 1 Unpacking the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform
Step 2 Installing the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Into a Rack
Step 3 Connecting the Power Cable
Step 4 Connecting to Upstream Switches
Step 5 Connecting a Monitor and Keyboard
Step 6 Configuring CIMC
Step 7 Configuring Serial Over LAN Access on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform
Step 8 Connecting to the Cloud Services Platform Host CLI
Step 9 Where to Go Next
Use this procedure to connect a monitor and keyboard to the Cisco Nexus 1010. The monitor and keyboard are used to configure CIMC.
Before starting this procedure, you must know or do the following:
Warning Blank faceplates and cover panels serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the chassis; they contain electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt other equipment; and they direct the flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system unless all cards, faceplates, front covers, and rear covers are in place.
Statement 1019
Step 1 On the front panel of the Cisco Nexus 1010, attach the supplied KVM cable to the console connector.
Step 2 Connect a keyboard and monitor to the KVM cable.
Step 3 You have completed this procedure. Continue with Configuring CIMC.
Use this procedure to configure static network settings using Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) software. Use the KVM port on the Cisco Cloud Services Platform, for CIMC configuration. All configuration of the Cisco Nexus 1000 software must be done using the CIMC/Serial over LAN port on the rear of the system.

Statement 1019
Step 1 From the rear panel, connect an Ethernet cable to the 10/100 Ethernet CIMC management port (RJ-45).
Note This port is used for configuration of the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) software only. All configuration of the Cisco Nexus 1010 software is done using the serial connector port.
Step 2 From the front panel, press and release the Power button to boot the Cisco Nexus 1010.
The Cisco Nexus 1010 boots up in main power mode. The LED changes from blinking green to solid green. The following information about the CIMC management port displays on the Cisco logo screen:
Step 3 Observe the booting process on your screen and do one of the following:
The BIOS CIMC Configuration Utility opens.
Step 5 Use the on screen instructions to do any or all of the following:
Note The default CIMC password is password.
Step 6 Press F10 to save your changes and then press ESC to exit and reboot the Cisco Nexus 1010.
Note Changes to the IP address take effect after approximately 30 seconds.
The new Cisco Nexus 1010 reboots, and the following information about the CIMC management port displays on the Cisco logo screen:
Step 7 You have completed this procedure. Continue with Configuring Serial Over LAN Access on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.
Use this procedure and the CIMC software to redirect the input and output of the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform serial port to the network over IP.
Before starting this procedure, you must know or do the following:
The default CIMC username for the Cisco Nexus 1010 and the Cisco Nexus 1110 is admin.
– The default CIMC password is password.

Statement 1019
Step 1 With the 10/100 Ethernet CIMC management port (RJ-45) still connected to your network, point your browser to the IP address assigned to it, and then log in to the CIMC interface.
Note The default CIMC username for the Cisco Nexus 1010 is admin.
The default password is password.
Step 2 In the left column of the CIMC main window, click the Server tab, and then click Remote Presence .
Step 3 On the Remote Presence page, click the Serial over LAN tab.
Step 4 Uncheck the Enabled check box under Serial over LAN Properties .
Step 6 You have completed this procedure. Continue with “Connecting to the Cloud Services Platform Host CLI” section.
Step 1 SSH to the CIMC IP address as the admin user and log in to the CIMC software.
