Introduction

This document describes the most common traces that are enabled on Unity Connection and PBX IP Media Gateway (PIMG) when you troubleshoot the problem with the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). These are traces you could enable in order to troubleshoot the problem or before you open a TAC case in order to speed up the process.

Enable Traces

Complete these steps in order to enable traces on Unity Connection:

  1. Go to Unity Connection Serviceability.
  2. Choose Trace > Macro Traces.
  3. Expand Call Control (Miu) Traces.
  4. Check the For SIP Systems check box.

Next, complete these steps in order to enable traces on PIMG/TIMG (T1 IP Media Gateway):

  1. On the PIMG/TIMG, go to the Administration interface and choose Diagnostics > Trace/Logging.
  2. Beside Trace, click Configure. Cisco recommends that you turn on these traces:
    • Tel - check the Event check box.
    • Voip - check the Prot check box.
    • Adept - check the ALL check box if you will troubleshoot Call Processing Identifier (CPID) rules.
    • SI - check the ALL check box if you use a serial cable with your configuration and if you have problems with calls that go to the opening greeting or the correct mailbox.
  3. Click Submit.

Now you are ready to reproduce the problem. When you reproduce the problem, make a note of the time, the calling party number, and the called party number. Also, be able to provide a good description of the problem experienced.

Start and Gather Traces

Complete these steps in order to start and gather traces on PIMG/TIMG:

  1. On the PIMG/TIMG, go to the Administration interface and choose Diagnostics > Trace/Logging.
  2. Beside Trace, click Start and make a test call after enough time has passed that you expect the call should have rolled to voicemail.
  3. Click Stop.
  4. Click Download in order to obtain the trace file.

Complete these steps in order to gather trace files from the same time period from Unity Connection:

  1. Open Real Time Monitoring Tool (RTMT).
  2. Go to Trace & Log Central.
  3. Collect the files.
  4. Connect to Conversation Manager.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Next again.
  7. Adjust the time range under Collection Time in order to fit the time of your test.
  8. In Download File Options, change the Download File Directory to a location you can find.
  9. Click Finish. The files are downloaded to a folder with the name of your Unity Connection Server.
