June 8, 1998

Products Affected

This field notice affects the Catalyst 3900 ATM feature module (WS-C3900-ATMSC), including all levels of software prior to ATM code 1.2(3). Catalyst 3900 ATM module users should not run Catalyst 3900 ATM code earlier than 1.2(3). This field notice does not affect the Catalyst 3900 main systems software.

Problem Description

Data corruption that is not detected can occur with the Catalyst 3900 ATM feature module when sending frames. Data corruption can occur at any point in the frame. Frames may become larger or smaller, and addresses, data, or CRC fields may be corrupted.

Data Corruption can eventually lead to a "Watchdog Timer" error on the ATM module.

Workaround/Solution

There is no workaround. The Catalyst 3900 ATM module software must be upgraded to 1.2(3) or later.

Because of the highly intermittent and unpredictable nature of this problem, all users of the Catalyst 3900 ATM feature should install Catalyst 3900 ATM code 1.2(3) or later as soon as possible. Catalyst 3900 ATM module users should not run code earlier than 1.2(3).

The Catalyst 3900 ATM module code can be found in CCO's Software Center (registered customers only) .
