The products that are listed in the Products Affected section might fail after 18 months or longer in operation due to a clock signal component failure.
A clock signal component manufactured by one supplier, and included in some Cisco products, has been seen to degrade over time in some units.
Although the Cisco products with these components are currently performing normally, we expect product failures to increase over the years, beginning after the unit has been in operation for approximately 18 months.
Once the component has failed, the system will stop functioning, will not boot, and is not recoverable.
These clock signal components are used by other companies and are included in a number of Cisco products.
When this issue occurs, the product does not function properly, no console output appears, and the system fails to reboot.
Customers with affected products (refer to the How to Identify Affected Products section of this field notice) should contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to request a replacement unit.
To open a Cisco TAC case, you must have a valid support contract or a product that is under warranty.
To verify if the IR829 products have a POE included, please use the show diag command in IOS, as seen below. If there is a POE installed, the IR800-IL-POE Product ID will show up in the POE EEPROM contents. If there is no POE, nothing will show under the POE EEPROM contents.
In order to verify if your product is affected by this issue, examine the Version ID (VID) number for the IR809 or IR829.
Any devices with a VID number equal to or later than the "Fixed Version ID" are not affected and do not need to be replaced.
Any devices with a VID number equal to or earlier than the "Possibly Affected Version ID" are possibly affected.
