Problem Description

Cards remain in a constant state of reset (Red FAIL LED ON) due to a 1.5V DC/DC converter failure. This has been root caused to a specific component within the DC/DC converter design.

Background

The failure of the 1.5V regulator within the DC/DC converter design has been root caused to a bad lot of MOSFETs (20-0116-01) which exhibit excessive turn off delay. This excessive delay overstresses the 1.5V DC/DC converter, resulting in the regulator failure. This failure is detected by the voltage supervisory circuit which issues a microprocessor reset.

Problem Symptoms

A card may display the failure signature when the Red Fail LED is continuously illuminated. This indicates that the card is in a constant state of reset, which may result from this issue.

Workaround/Solution

No workaround has been identified for this issue. If the customer experiences this issue, Cisco recommends returning the card for a replacement.
