Units with Firmware version 2.8 or earlier can experience a race condition which results in the watch dog resetting the core processor before the core processor can execute the routine to reboot the network processor. The result is the inability to communicate with the Amplifier and the loss of SNMP. The loss of SNMP can result in a complete loss of network management. Although the unit continues to perform optically, the user does not have the ability to manage the unit until there is a manual reset of the unit.
This issue was first seen in a customer network and verified internally within Cisco internal labs.
After you manually issue a single reboot command to the 15501-EDFA unit, the unit enters into a continuous loop of reboots and the front panel LEDs repeatedly blink, indicating "bootup sequence."
If you have an affected unit, contact Cisco Technical Support for assistance in obtaining a reworked unit.
